Manchester United vs Arsenal Kids: Let’s make it happen…

Today is a massive game, a game if we win would be absolutely amazing – but a win is looking unlikely, simply because of the great degree of personnel unavailable… Not to be negative, but away at Old Trafford with our best team ever is hard, so with the likes of Miquel, Jenkinson and Coquelin all brought into the first team squad, we’re obviously very young…

As a quick reminder, Alex Song, Emmanuel Frimpong and Gervinho are all suspended for this game, whilst at least one centre back, most likely Vermaelen will also miss the game, and perhaps another in Djourou too…

My predicted line up if the two centre backs don’t make it is…

Szcznesy

Jenkinson – Miquel – Koscielny – Sagna

Coquelin – Ramsey

Walcott – Rosicky – Arshavin

Van Persie

Quite far away from our main team, but nevertheless, whatever team that we put out, it will be a team to compete, and we have to get behind the team 100%. (And yes, with the exception of Van Persie and Sagna, this could easily have been a Carling Cup side of a couple of years ag0)…

I’ll update this post when the teams are announced, so stay tuned, and COME ON YOU GOONERS….!!

  • yemi

Certainly its a great time to be a city fan(much as I hate to admit), they are taking spurs to d cleaners!
Nasri 2 assists, managed only one last season. Sure helps to have world class players all around u.

To our game, I pray we pull a major upset and I hope chicarito doesn’t play cos ij will be too mucn for our defence to take on an attack oe rooney, young, nani, chicarito without an established DM.

  • yemi

O to be a gooner! Breaks my heart

  • devday

    Not long to go now…

  • Bonathan

interested to see who gets that 3rd midfield position for us today. Apparentely sagna might be out due to illness now as well. Looks like djourou will make it and hopefully vermaelen. If sagna is out, here’s what i’d go for:

    .. .Chesney
    Jenkinson JD KOS TV5
    Colequin Lansbury
    walcott ramsey Arsharvin
    RVP

Perhaps if sagna is fit, then i’d be tempted to try kos or jd in midfield:

    ………..Chesney
    jenkinson JD TV5 sagna
    Kos Ramsey
    walcott rosicky arsharvin
    rvp

i quite like the look of that 2nd team but it relies on sagna tv5 and kos all being fit. the reason i left rosicky out of the first was that if we didn’t have a proper holding midfielder then i’d sooner have 3 youngsters who will stick their foot in than two youngsters and a bally dancer.

  • Bonathan

oh no, no sagna or tv5. this could get messy

  • yemi

What in this world has arsenal turn into? Wha a team to take to old trafford! And what a bench! Compared to uniteds team/bench!
I can smell an upset though!

  • prime

    3-0 first half…good job wenger

  • prime

3-1…thanks walcott for give slice hope

  • mesol

Yes, Good Job Wenger..You’ll burn Arsenal down with your plan to build for the future

  • Bonathan

rosicky is pants. surely we’d be better off playing lansbury than him. he’s dog shit.

Could have had Jose enrique at LB for a bargain price as well. A decent CB as well, we might have been able to put in a decent show today.

do you think arsene wenger rrealises that the season has already started?

  • Berth

@ Bonathan I don’t think he knows the league has started.

  • mesol

Wenger will not buy any player anymore because he says his players now are the best in the league..Good Thinking Wenger

  • Bonathan

finally we get to see arsharvin centrally, no doubt he’l take him off in 5 mins though. get rosicky off, lansbury on

  • prime

  • prime

    7-2..cmon mu give another 3 !!!

  • Bonathan

would we have ever beat united 7-2 with so many players out?? no chance. we’d have still struggled to win.

rosicky should be binned off. why is lansbury not getting more of a chance?

we need 3 top notch players before wednesday. i reckon we’ll get 2 sub standard ones.

  • Vazy

  • mesol

This is a team to win a championship..Brilliant Mr. Wonderfull Wenger..You give MU the Biggest win ever against Arsenal..You are LEGEND!!!

  • yemi

    Thank God its finally over

  • AmriGooner

    What a disgrace.
Our away fans were fantastic, still Wenger
and his kids didn’t care about those fans at all.

  • richiebacardi

    gutted

  • richiebacardi

The strange thing is….having spoken to a few arsenal fans in the last few minutes…the general consensus is that we are gutted, but glad it has happened….

I really can’t put it into words why at the moment, but strange isn’t it?

  • kodjo

stop blaming wenger…its the board they are hiding behind him…if the board does not release money for signings what can wenger do.

    i blame the board 100%

  • Bonathan

there’s no doubting it’s not just wenger, but he has had money for signings, but he has chose to spend it on tomorrow, not today. he’s also had bids rejected, so there has been more money.

don’t get me wrong, i’m not one saying wenger should go, far from it, but he is stubborn and he is arrogant.

  • Bonathan

and he also makes us a laughing stock with his quotes

  • Gooner Get Ya

Well that wasn’t very embarrassing was it. Bring back David Dean now. Arsene needs help because the rest of the board are useless. We need quality players now!!!

  • Bonathan

long way back for us now i’m afraid. thre’s a big gap between us and the big 3 now. a gap that we might not see breached for a lot of years.

gary neville and paul merson were astounded by wenger’s tactics today regardless of the personell. embarrasingly naive. also, united’s team had a similar average age

  • kodjo

    @ bonathan and the rest….

do you think wenger who brought in world class players btn 2000-2004 likes of henry, wiltord, gilberto, reyes, kanu, veira, petit, edu, eduardo, etc….literally added a player or two every year suddenly does not know what he is doing????

Look its down to money…either we dont have it or the board is not releasing it….so whats the alternaive????

maybe the board thought kroenke is rich…to their error usmanov has more money and probably ready to invest in the team.

what has kroenke done??? since he got majority shares….he’s sanctioned the departure of our best players instead of coming up with a package to keep the best players and attract better players.

Lookk the team is in need of massive investment but…with such a damaging psychological defeat its hard to see who will want to join…not to mention how late the board have left it in the transfer market…

  • Bonathan

i think he needs help. someone needs to help him and he needs to let them help him.

i think he does know what he’s doing but i think he’s too confidant with what he has. he’s out to prove a point and it’s made him blind.

just for the record, i wouldn’t get rid of him. no chance. and yes, there’s something going on behind the scenes that we aren’t aware of. the board have a lot to answer for certainly. it’s as if we’v been trying to finish in the top 4 with the bare minimum all the time. well, this season it might just backfire and cost us a fortune

  • Bonathan

he also needs to quit with the ridiculous comments that he makes. he makes himself and the club look stupid. countless examples all summer. everybody is laughing at them, him and us

  • yemi

Like I’ve saying for a while, where is KSE sports in all of these? Usmanov is certainly a better option, but we got badly f..ked frm d behind.

So we are 17th after 3 games.me have a red card for every match, an injury depleted 1st team, a lot of activity in the transfer market mostly outward with no inward movement and just 3days left to remedy it.

The only positive is qualifying for champs

  • yemi

Disaster brewing over the past 6yrs !s abt to explode

  • Steve

Board Board Board Board!! That’s where Mr Dein should be.

Wheels have gradually fallen off since his departure.

The board have all cashed in and made the Club, players, manger, fans, the people who have suffered.

We blame Cashley and Na$ir for cashing in when those who run the club do.

I am not trying to bankrupt the club but the cash is supposed to be there we have seen nearly £70 million in and less than $15 million out. Which leaves £55 million + any transfer cash there was so £55 million and an IOU for £50 which might let one person in the ground for a match!

  • Kiki

It used to be that Arsenal just needed a couple, maybe a few signings to win trophies. Now we need a total revamp of a huge chunk of the squad. We need even more defenders now, more midfielders, and more strikers. Increase the wage cap, maybe splash a little cash because we need it. Get young players who would be welcomed with open arms in bottom to mid-table premier teams, no disrespect to those teams by any means. But that’s what I believe that Arsenal should consider doing.

Jenkinson? Coquelin? Miyachi? I mean, we should get Sakho, Son Heung Min, Galeano, Areola, Babacar, Eden Hazard, etc. Those are just some among others who would be considered first team in let’s say Bolton. And then if we had those youth players… I mean we did have older players who could tutor and bring them along so that when the time came when one star player became injured or suspended, then Sakho can step in or Sanago.

But we had that, not anymore. We’re bare, naked. We have young talent with barely any experience on the bench, on the field because they’re our first line of offense and defense. That is worrisome. These young players need some shelter when they play to gain valuable experience without the brunt of the pressure. They need a Fabregas, a Nasri, a Clichy to help them along. Who does Jenkinson look up to on the team?

I understand that most of our team are suspended, injured, or ill among other things. But look at Man Utd. They have this type of set up. As Scholes, Neville, and Van Der Sar retired, Man Utd brought on Jones, De Gea, Clevery and Welbeck back from loan because they had a good environment to grow and experience. I know I’m missing a lot of other factors in this simple analysis, but that’s how I feel in terms of how Arsenal should move on. It’s definitely not over by any means. But we are in dire need for some quality players who are excited, confident, and want to bring Arsenal back to the top of the table. The current players, board, head coach, and especially the fans need to keep their chin up and keep doing their best so that there can’t be any excuses.

  • Kiki

Oh, I totally forgot beforehand, this is actually my first post. Been a huge fan of this site since 2008 while in school. Been an Arsenal fan since 2004. Always had hope for this team and still do. The trend for this club now doesn’t look good, but that means we just need to turn it around. It might take a few years now since we did sell off key players.

  • Andrew

    Here’s the positive:

    Arsenal: 1 point

    Sp*rs: 0 points

  • Bonathan

spurs with a game in hand

  • Bonathan

    more ridiculous quotes:

‘i think we never recovered enough from wednesday’

wtf? the season has only just started! pathetic.

to say it’s only the board to blame is clearly not right. arsene sent that team out with extremely naive instructions at old trafford. he has bought players, and is playing them now, that wouldn’t get on for any other team in the premiership and probably many championship teams. giving the youngsters experience early is good, but it must be blended right otherwise it can have adverse effects as well. lord knows what damage this might be doing to some of them.

Too much faith has been put in below average players. we had eastmond playing for us on quite a few occasions the other season, a guy who couldn’t get in the team at millwall. ok, some of these youngsters will go on to be great players, but equally, some will drop down the divisions, and we are playing them in massive games.

  • yemi

    @ Andrew:
That is definitely NOT a positive, comparing arsenal to Spurs show how degenerated we have become.

The only postive i saw yesterday was fracis coquelin (for the future).

Our defensive positioning was wack. Same mistake for 2 rooney free kicks.
Did you see the match stats ? Man u had 15 shots and scored 8, we had 13 and scored two. They scored a penalty, we lost a penalty, they had 4 or 5 corner kicks, we had 3, they had an average player age of 23, we had 23.5.
So what was the problem ?
Only arsene and arsenal management seem not to know that we have a leaky defence. Last season we lost/drew so many matches from winning positions including spurs home and away, sunderland, wigan, liverpool, newcastle.
A quote fro eurosports “Since that defensive calamity handed Birmingham City the Carling Cup in February, Arsenal have won just five games in 19 all competitions. Two of those came against Udinese in the recent Champions League qualifier. It is clear to ED that the Gunners are in a state of alarming decline.”

    So so true.
For how long have we been saying buy 1 or 2 centre halves ? Or replace clichy ? Or buy Mata ? Buy hazard ?
We lost bargain prices for mata, enrique and any team that wants to sell to us now will inflate prices cos we are desperate and we have just 2 days.

Back to that game of yesterday, it was an all round disaster.
The defensive line was so high against a man u team that has fast players and were caught on the back foot gazzilion times.
How many times did young, chicarito, nani breach that defense ?

If we get all our players back, we still will not challenge for 4th position. The top four are already there. They have enough quality such that even if they have injuries to their players, the backups are equaly as good.
Can you imagine that tevez and berbatov, the 2 highest goal scorers last season did not even play in their respective matches ?
City bench is outrageous, but look at man u too. Giggs, berba, chicarito on the bench. city had milner, adam johnson,
tevez, balotelli on the bench. Chelsea did not play kalou, luiz, alex, and subbed anelka, mata, lukaku.

common guys, we are simply weak as a team. quality is there but not quality for the present. no quantity.

Now i heard we are going back for sol campbell after he was released by newcastle. I heard we are going for Alex.

What is happening at arsenal now make me believe there is a conspiracy to destroy the club by some pple.
Where is our major shareholders, KSE sports ?

  • Bonathan

and rumours now that spurs are in for cahill. we could end up red faced again here. either we’ll get in a bidding war and end up paying more than we needed, or we miss out again.

  • yemi

Jenkinson would not in his wildest dream believe he would play against man u at such an early stage in his arsenal career, yet he has already played in the champions league.
Apart from wan persie, which arsenal player in that squad will get a first team shirt in ANY other premiership team ? Traore could only play bits and pieces at portsmouth talk less of juve. If wenger trusted traore that much, why did he play sagna on the left and jenks on the right ? Yet he keeps such a player !!!

I agree that we lost so many players to injury/suspensions and transfers but is it not the duty of the manager to see that we have enuff personnel ? where are the backups ? This team looks like a team that wenger would play in the carling cup and we would complain that he was not taking the competition serious.
I have not stopped crying since yesterday. Not because of the scoreline per se but for the fact that we have great problems that we cannot solve till maybe january, and that is if our management even believe we have a problem. The win against udinese was a curse (i said it then), maybe if these fools had lost the 20-25m They would have woken up

  • yemi

    hxxp://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/early-doors/article/347267/

  • Bonathan

That article brings up a very useful point actually. Denilson would have started in every game so far i think if he were here. With nasri and fab going and no one coming in, why did we sanction this?? Denilson himself would have loved to stay if he knew he was going to get a game.

i know there’s a lot of people that didn’t like denilson, but i don’t think anyone can deny that he’s a better option than colequin or rosicky. rosicky wasn’t even interested yesterday. did anyone see the clip of him in the wall when rooney scored from the free kick, if not then pause and take a look from the camera angle facing the arsenal goal. incredible.

  • Bonathan

wow, just watched it again on MOTD2, that guy should never play for the club again. an example needs to be made.

  • yemi

    @ Bonathan:
I saw that shot and i was so so so so disgusted, he was in the wall, he didn’t even look back to see if the ball had gone in or not, what if the keeper had parried it and it needed to be cleared ?
I tell you, i was so shocked and the camera so caught him!!!!

  • JayJayGooner

I am so upset at Arsenal for letting the team get to that state of affairs that we simply couldn’t pass or defend – what has happened to our beloved Arsenal?

  • yemi

If we had a cesc or a nasri in that match, the result would have been different. I could count more than 10 times when ramsey made a wrong decision in terms of passing. It is clear he does not have the eye for a killer pass. There were several times when theo/jenk will break free on the right waiing for a through ball to be released, ramsey never released any !!!

  • Bonathan

Yeah, i mean, KOS is probably 1st choice at our club, jd 3rd choice, jenki 2nd choice, these guys aren’t far down the pecking order. they’re back up. there was only colequin who was quite far down the pecking order. our back players aren’t good enough.

ha, charlie nichilas has just suggested trying to buy rio ferdinand! wow, i bet rio will have a good laugh at that one.

armand traore to QPR. good riddens, but who is our back up LB now?? are we really going to keep switching TV5 or sagna when gibbs is injured (most of the season probably). Why did we not sign jose enrique?? 5.5m, no one can say that was about money, we know we at least have that much. that decision was the manager’s.

  • yemi

Traore has gone to QPR ? So no LB ? There is a virus spreading at arsenal that has affected the management !!!

  • yemi

    @ Bonathan:
Where did you get the traore to QPR news ? Loan or sold ? Hopefully the latter!! So why has wenger not bought a left back ?

  • yemi

Even the WOA team is dumbfounded hence no post-match publication !!!!

  • yemi

joel campell to PSV (WORK PERMIT NOT GRANTED)

  • Bonathan

i heard rumours the other day about traore to qpr and then this morning, when they were discussing the game on sky sports, they were talking of our defence and they said it now appears that traore will be having a medical at qpr today
