A Summer Of Change…

Morning All…

In the last few days, we’ve had a influx of players who have declared intent to leave. First Denilson stated his desire to leave, then Niklas followed suit and then Carlos Vela jumped in with a little announcement of his own on twitter. 3 players from the youth project, all ready to jump ship. Loyalty in the game? Virtually none if you consider how many games and how many chances all of the above three players have had in their Arsenal careers. In reality, none of the three players gets into our first team, so perhaps a blessing in disguise that they wish to move on and perhaps a blessing in disguise that some clubs are interesting in them.

Our wage bill is £120m a year and Bendtner (£2.5m/year), Denilson (£2m/year) and Carlos Vela (£1.6m/year) would shave about £6m per annum of the wage bill, so not a bad start to the summer. At minimum they’d bring in at least £5m each, and at maximum, you can look at maybe £20m for the three. We’ll see what happens. If Bayern Munich are really interested and the £12m quoted is true, then it will surely be a good bit of business. I don’t actually think Arsene wants to lose Bendtner, as he has shown incredible faith in the player – but what can you do when players aren’t happy?

Bendtner’s agent and father said this:

“He has made his decision and he has told it to Arsenal. Nicklas needs to be playing from the start so, sadly, he must leave. He wanted to finish the season first, so no-one could say he didn’t fight for a first-team place right until the end. There is real interest from both English and German clubs, and Bayern Munich were after him, earlier. It’s very exciting. But talk about Aston Villa is rubbish. He has not met anyone from there.”

So, it looks like it’s going to happen, and perhaps it’s the start of a mini-exodus…

Arsene has repeatedly said that he is going to be active in the transfer market, and we’re all eager to see what that actually means…

“We will try to do the right thing this summer and we will try to buy the right players. The amount of money is not always linked with the quality of the player but if we find the right players we will spend the money. But we should not go overboard. Even if people say we have to spend money, we have to be realistic. We cannot buy players for £50 million and, even if we try to strengthen our team and spend money if needed, that is a fact. The market will be hyperactive because everyone believes financial fair play will happen soon. So we are quickly doing the last buying before the stores will be closed. And for the very first time for a while, I will be very active too.”

For all the fans, that statement does have quite an interesting ring to it… Arsene says he’s going to be active – but to be honest, I’ve seen many a summer go past where I’ve been disappointed, so I’m not going to hold my  breath. I do hope we try and may one marquee signing… after all the years of selling our best players, it may be just the tonic the remaining players, like Cesc and Van Persie need to give them a spark!

And if the rumours are to be believed then we may have already signed a little talent in Argentian midfielder Ricky Alvarez (although at 6′ 3″, I should refer to him as little)… The video does get better as it continues…

And finally, some great news…

“Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere will not be part of the under-21 squad which travels to Denmark. Andy has been ruled out through injury. I spoke to Jack last week and he explained that while he told me in March that he wanted to be part of the squad, he now feels he is not in the best condition to take part in the finals. That is based on the number of games he has played for Arsenal this season, sports science data which Jack was presented with last week and concerns he has for his fitness looking ahead to next season.”

Jack isn’t going to the Under 21 tournament this summer… finally, sense has prevailed and the FA have decided that it’s too risky to play a broken and tired Jack through the summer as well as through the season as well as through next season and next summer… hopefully he will get a chance to rest now and prepare himself for his second season at the Emirates as a first teamer…

Hopefully with some new additions by his side.

This is where the manager is so stupid its unbelievable. Why keep dross players like bender? If he wants to go then let him go. It seems he wants to cling on to this mad project for as long as he can. Welcome Europa league with this idiot still in charge. I can’t believe the hatred I feel for this manager – one whom I used to adore. Now the nonsense that comes from him is more and more ropey and I can’t trust his judgement any longer.

  • sigma

Its funny that a lot of “supporters” in here love to blame players who are not playing regularly. What about analyzing why our regular players didn´t perform very well. A lot of new names are mentioned for next season, but I think you have forgotten we are only number 4 this season, We are NOT a top club any longer and it will now be more difficult for us to attract class players. New players are not always the only key to success. In most cases its more about to optimize your squad physically and mentally(commitment)and choose the right playing style according to the present squad.

    @ Sigma:

In most cases its more about to optimize your squad physically and mentally(commitment)and choose the right playing style according to the present squad.

I agree with you in this respect..i have been saying for a long time that Wenger is not optimizing his use of the current squad. There are certain games that come to mind…B’ham, Stoke, Bolton, Citeh, maybe N’castle and even West Brom where the likes of Bedntner and Chanakh shd have started. Just bcos of the style of play.

I still can’t believe that with all of Wenger’s exp he expect sthe players to play the same way against most of the opposing teams. Sure B52 has a terrible 1st touch but then, he has other positives which have not been maximised, so does Chamakh…to make it worse we have players who cant cross the ball. Hence signaficant asset (Plan B) is not used. I can guarantee fans that we probably lost abt 10-15 goals bcos of underutilization of the above noted players and the lack of quality crosses.

It is my opinion that we have lost or drawn ‘winnable’ games due to Wengers tactics and the personnel he employs….this statement is not in hindsight bcos i have regularly mentioned these points prior to certain games.

As much as i dislike Ferguson for his bullying of refs…i take my hat off for his tactical acumen and the risks he takes with the personnel he employs. Case in point fielding 8 midfielders against us in the FA cup and his team selection against Shalke in the first leg.

Thats why I am telling you until this fool leaves we will continue to decline

  • JDD

lets be honest denilson is a joke and that fact that he ‘has made the choice to leave’ is a joke he knows wenger is gonna sell him.since teh wba game away were he was terrible and taking of at half time he ahsnt been seen? (if its rumoured hes injured its bullshit he was dropped cos hes shit) bendtner is also another player i dont rate at all he may succed in the german league but the prem and especially a team of our stature is not the place for him.on the other hand vela is a player i like and think has real qaulity i dont know what he said but if he wants to leave then sell him.

  • Berth

JDD: when u talk of a “team of our stature” I begin to wonder what stature you all about.

  • Bonathan

Well, looks like hazard has elected to stay at lille. What does everyone think about this argentian guy? looks pretty handy on the video. looks can be deceiving of course. Wonder if there was many other clubs trying to nab him

  • sigma

sun is reporting we are in for Benzema. I know its the sun but I wouldnt be surprised about this becuase A – He’s french B. With Bender/Vela leaving means we need another quality striker and he fits the bill. I’d take him

  • livestrong

our captain wants to leave and doesnt give a toss anymore. nasri isnt signing a new contract so i would expect our money orientated board and manager to cash in on him (otherwise he goes for free next season). i hear clichy wants out and so does bendtenr and denilson (but really who cares about them 3). thats 5 players who no longer want to play for arsenal. there could be more who havent said anything and would be open to a change should the opportunity arise. arshavin would leave if he could, sagna is the 3rd best right back in the world behind maicon and alves so he could go anyhwere he wanted his that good. i could argue over half the sqaud dont really want to play for arsenal. the manager isnt really wanted by the fans. theres no connection at all between fans and players (wilshere, ramsey, van persie aside). the board are imcompatent and criticise the fans who pay through the roof to compensate the fact they cocked up money we never got from the highbury sales. the fans dont really want wenger. in contrast wenger self delusional self thinks arsenal fans would follow him of a cliff. theres is no solid foundations at this club. we are a mess.

  • sigma

apparently clichy wants oit – EXCCEELLENT – Summers just got better for us ;-)
    Get out you atheltic boy

  • Kodjo

Here’s Alexander Netherton opinion on soccernet….

If Carlo goes then so should Arsene

Reiterating Cesc’s view that if Arsene were in Spain he’d have been fired for going 6 yrs without a trophy!

  • JDD

    @berth

a team that is in the top 4 i.e bendtner isnt good enough to play for a top 4 team in the prem.why?because hes shit.when a big chance comes his way he blows doesnt anyone remember nou camp 89th minute 3-1 down on the night 4-3 down on aggregate one more goal would see us thru on away goals.the ball falls to bendtner 1on1 what happens?

  • Berth

@JDD He screwed us up all over; but personally that B25 incidence could be analysed in different ways. You could go through the part of lack of quality on the players part or lack of that ruthlessness from the coach, either way we have been screwed right, front, center and possibly from the backside.

Wenger thrives more on having a quality team and a unique style; it seems like he has forgotten what made him great in the past.

  • Bonathan

It’l be good to see the back of bentdner. Surely it’s the end for alminia as well. We need rid of some of this dead wood. I quite like denilson, but he won’t be a great miss. I’m resigned to losing Fabregas, and although he’ll be a massive miss, i think it’l be good as we can give the captains armband to a proper captain. Nasri and ramsey between them can fill the gap.

But there’s the worrying thing. Nasri still not signing a new contract. Does he want to stay. Who knows, maybe he’s just waiting to see what wenger does in the transfer market. Who could blame him. If so, then wenger better make sure he does enough to persuede him to stay, otherwise we are gonna be looking to plug too many holes. Manchester united rumoured to be in for him and i can quite believe it. After all, they’ve been linked with the likes of modric and ashley young. Nasri is both of them rolled into one and he only has a year left on his contract. I think they’ll be more than interested. Would nasri consider going to a team that consistantly win trophies to play under one of the great managers of all time? Of course his head is going to be turned. This is very worrying news. Wenger needs to act quick to persuade him otherwise.

  • Jimmy

If Bendtner does leave which he probably will, we desperately need a striker for when Van Persie gets his annual half a season long injury.

Noone is talking of rosisky ? If he is content with playing the bit-part role, then fine with me.
Having said that, I still want to put the blame of the seasons woes on 3 sets of pple.

    1. B team not being able to beat teams like ipswich, no’ham, Leeds etc then going on to second leg for some of the games and having to call on the first teamers

    2. A Teams lack of drive/passion/willingness (Apart from jack) to win and lack of leadership

    3. Coaching crew headed by Arsene Wenger.
1.) He should have strengthened The defense in January but decided to gamble with TV return.

2.) He should have done away with some of these dead wood long ago, but kept on keeping faith. Of all the players he has kept faith with, how many of them have proven him right ? Diaby ? Denilson ? B52 ? Vela (Even though he doesnt play) But if you can’t get in WBA first team regularly, how can you play for Arsenal ? Jack went to bolton and got a regular place so much more that he was wanted another season. same goes for schezney.

    3. Lack of a plan B. Same tactics home and away. Same tactics playing a team with tall and strongvplayers like stoke, B’ham, Sunderland or fast pacey and skillful teams like WBA, man u. Same Same Same.

I hope Wenger does something this summer, he has started signing the youngsters again.

    1. 16 year old Jon Miquel Toral Harper from barca
    2. 19 year old Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic
    3. also interestted in Southampton duo of 17 yr old Alex Chamberlain and 16 yr old Luke Shaw
    4. 16 yr old Hector Bellerin…..

    Where the experience at ?

I stumbled on these articles… What do you think ?

Check thi article out…stats breakdown on arsenal defence and other interesting aspect of the pemier league

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/may/26/premier-league-opta-statistics

  • Bonathan

Yeah, I can see your reason for concern. But there’s nothing wrong with wenger continuing bringing in these youngsters, as long as he’s learned he needs to blend it with the odd quality, more established signing. Trouble is we have had a lack of these in recent years and now we’re at the stage where we need 3 or 4 of them.

Wenger has admitted so much for himself. He’s a clever guy, and i think we’ll at least see a slight change of tact from him in the transfer market. I’m happy to get behind him and see how things go over the sumer and the forthcoming season. Who knows, maybe this will all be for the better in the long run.

  • yemi

@ Bonathan: I don’t have a problem with him getting these kids as long as he gets the necessary number of experienced players which at the moment might be up to 4 (depending on who leaves and he stays)

    1 CB, 1 CF, 1 AM and 1 GK

  • CON-MAN

cant be mad at any of them 3 wanting to leave-I’m annoyed as anyone to always seen bendtner on the right wing, denilson is so so and honestly where does vela fit in? Sort of a poor mans RVP, both quite simillar
