Arsenal vs Wolves Match Preview

Howdie Folks… Next up for us is Wolverhampton Wanderers down at the Emirates. And it is a very very important game for us. They will be tough opposition (well Karl Henry will be)… of course, as we know they just beat Man United. A lot of people are talking about the Barcelona game and of course, it is a big game. But first comes the equally big (in terms of our title aspirations), Wolves game, so we need to fully focus on this game.

On twitter, there has been some debate about whether or not to rest Van Persie and / or Djourou – with the Barcelona game looming, there is a split between people’s thoughts – should we rest Van Persie / Djourou or should we play them. If either did get injured, then it would put us in a lesser position for the game against Barcelona – but if we don’t play them and rest them then and lose the game, how will that affect our preparations for the Wednesday game and how will it affect our title bid. It’s a tough one, but Arsene believes that going into a must win game with a win in the match before.

Arsene spoke ahead of the game about our injuries and confirmed that Djourou is fit to play:

“Yes, Djourou is fit. Diaby has a problem but anyway he is suspended. Denilson is available. Rosicky has a groin problem coming back from the Czech Republic so he is not involved but Denilson is coming back. The rest of the squad will be the same as Newcastle. Cesc and Van Persie will both be playing.”

On Thomas Vermaelen, he added:

“He is doing better and he is in the normal process of rehabilitation. When he will be fit again, I don’t know. It is very difficult to set any time on it. Something like three weeks.”

So, there we have it, Van Persie and Cesc will play against Wolves, and I think Djourou will too – it’s a massive game in our title ambitions and if City can get a result at Old Trafford, the gap at the top will be significantly reduced!

Our line up may well be:

Szcznesy

Sagna – Djourou – Koscielny – Clichy

Wilshere – Song

Walcott – Cesc – Arshavin

Van Persie

With a bench of Almunia, Eboue, Gibbs, Denilson, Chamakh and Bendtner and a mystery 7th player…

Arsene also commented on the games and told us it’s his priority… What Barcelona game? he said……

“There is no Barcelona in mind. There is Wolverhampton in mind. That’s what is important to us, the championship. We fought so hard to be in this position now that the most important thing is that we focus on the Premiership. I cannot even imagine playing against Barcelona next week because it is out of my mind completely.”

Exciting times – if United slip up, we will be within a point of them – but it all hinges on us beating Wolves…

All that is left to say is “Come on you Gooners!!!”

    Haha Wenger! What Barcelona game?
I bet you he is thinking about it at least 50% of his day! and 100% of his dreams!

  2. Goonerman says on :

Realisticly Barcelona is an extremely hard game and we are big underdogs, to rest people tomorrow would just be foolish!! Especially knowing at least one of city or united will drop points tomorrow is easily as big a game as the barca one!!

  3. Sam says on :

EPL is a more realistic target than CL, so Wolves is the more critical game.
