Champions League Draw- Return of Eduardo, possibly…!

So the Champions League draw was made today in Monaco, and after the usual preambles, the main draw started. Pot A got drawn first, the teams being put into groups. We got Group H.

Pot 2 got drawn out next, and we were able to avoid the likes of Real Madrid, and got Shaktar Donetsk! It was bound to happen, meaning we’ll be re-united with Eduardo sooner, rather than later. I absolutely love Eduardo, was really gutted he left, and it would be emotional playing against him, instead of with him, so early after he left! I bet he’ll be feeling the same! I wonder what the odds of him scoring against us will be…

On to Pot 3, and we got SC Braga, known as the Arsenalistas! Awesome. Not a bad draw. It’s their first time in the Champions League group stages apparently, so hopefully our experience should count.

Last team to face, from Pot 4, and we got FK Partizan Belgrade from Serbia.

No real banana skins per se, but you never know. Still though, I’d expect us to progress to the knock-out round.

So to round-up our draw:

Group H:

Shakhtar Donetsk

SC Braga

FK Partizan Belgrade

Other groups:

Group A: Inter Milan, Werder Bremen, TOTTENHAM, FC Twente

Group B: Lyon, Benfica, Schalke, Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Group C: MANCHESTER UNITED, Valencia, RANGERS, Bursaspor

Group D: FC Barcelona, Panathinaikos, FC Copenhagen, FC Rubin Kazan

Group E: Bayern Munich, AS Roma, FC Basel, CFR Cluj

Group F:CHELSEA, Marseille, Spartak Moscow, MSK Zilina

Group G: AC Milan, Real Madrid, Ajax, AJ Auxerre

Not a bad draw for us, but we still need to do the business. Come on Arsenal!!!

*Interesting stat from Opta. Apparently we’ve never won in Ukraine, with 3 defeats and 1 draw; in Portugal, with 2 defeats and 3 draws; and in Serbia, with 1 defeat. Those ofcourse, will be the 3 countries we’ll be playing our away legs at.

Well, there’s always a first for everything!

So pleased Eduardo will be at the Emirates again, even if it is for another team.

We should, in theory, tio the group, but we certainly have a lot of air miles to clock up.

  • jeffvip

Yea, sp*rs get a strong group..

  • http://worldofarsenal Josiah

if we progress we play top or second from which group?

  • Pete

    @ Josiah:

    Think it’s Group G.

  • Pete

Read this quote on the BBC site from a Arsenal fan:

“The Arsenal group looks too easy to be true, considering we could just as easily have drawn Real Madrid, Ajax and FC Twente. I’m deeply suspicious. And knowing our propensity for arrogance when the opposition is weak on paper, I’m worried for us.”

He might have a point. Hopefully we wont take this too casually.

  • jeffvip

Is fun to get Real Madrid in fact… We have to prove something sooner or later

  • vj

spurs will struggle to get through, especially if they are poor away from home, Group G will be very exciting, those stats are worrying but our home form is so good in champions league, im not worried about going through

  • Nick

Wow, Barcelona can rest their starting 11 through the group stage and still qualify!

Lucky draw for us, I think we’ll be more than up for it. Hopefully that will include the away games since we’re always a little dodgy on the road. Hopefully this year we won’t have to endure something as stupid as the “Eduardo’s dive” controversy!

Man U. and Chelsea look to win their groups easily.

  • newton

indeed the draw is not a aesy draw but we jut have to work hard in other 4 us to get to the top, wishing all my arsenal peeps a successive first round.

  • Flamez

@Josiah no we dont play a team from a specific group, its done as a knockoutdraw for the second round with only gaurentee is that we dont get an english team, then another draw which does quarters though to the final

  • goonerman

whats with the twitter feed? has wenger really confirmed no keeper will come in?

  • ny

At last Official announcement found in

  • devday

    @ goonerman:
arsene said “no more signings” and then said “he has faith in his 4 goalkeepers”… worrying signs.
