Greetings from Cape Town…

A quick blog post this afternoon as I wait for my taxi on route to the airport – am leaving Cape Town after a bitterly disappointing trip (in footballing terms) which saw a terrible game from my beloved England against an Algeria team who before the match said a 3-0 loss would be a good result… Ouch. In non-footballing terms – Cape Town is amazing and one of the best cities I’ve visited in my life – without a doubt – the stadium was fantastic and the general atmosphere in this town is second to none.

Tonight I’m off to the Brazil vs Ivory Coast game, which promises to be an exciting game, with two teams on form and looking good. Eboue is set to start and former gunner Gilberto Silva and potential target Felipe Melo are both looking to marshal the Brazilian midfield.

In Arsenal news, we’ve been linked with Jan Vertonghen, the former central defensive partner of none other than Thomas Vermaelen. See what Arsene is thinking there? We’ve also been strongly linked with the completion of the Laurent from Lorient transfer and Arsene has also confirmed the next signing will be announced before the end of the World Cup:

“There will be something happening before the end of the World Cup – certainly on the defensive side.”

Simple and to the point, that’s Arsene. The Lorient defender looks the dead cert as his agent has been in the news saying that an agreement is close. We’ve also been linked with the AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper, the Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero – but then again, we’ll probably be linked with any and every goalkeeper and defender that are available – until of course, we sign a defender or goalkeeper.

I’ll hopefully be back tomorrow post Brazil and be able to post a proper overview and maybe some more pictures from my travels….

For now my friends, my cab is here, my time is up and it’s time to depart for Jo’burg…

PS, congrats to Niklas Bendtner for scoring the first goal of the competition from an Arsenal player… commiserations to Carlos Vela and Philippe Senderos who will both not play any further part in the tournament… With Cesc and Song not first choice for their countries and half our squad not selected or not going, we’ll be the freshest team out there at the start of next season.

Til later…

have a safe trip to j’burg. i also hope vermaleen has recovered from his injury.

Bendtners goal was great. Song actually played well when he was subbed on. He should’ve been put on the pitch a lot earlier. Hopefully Cesc will see a good but of action in Spains next match.

LOL at Anelka being kicked off the French team. Henry get the start now? France are done whatever they do. Move on to the Laurent Blanc era and France will be successful again.

  • Dan

You’ve seen a great game tonight, Dev.

Can’t believe the ref has sent Kaka off without seeing the incident. The player just ran into him, shocking decision!

  • Sam

LOL: All the $hit going around the French team is making England look good!

  • ny

Eboue played well against Brazil. But Gervinjho stole the show in the end.

No teams who lost a match bacame champions since 1982 world cup.So only 5 big guns left namely Netherlands,England,Italy,Argentina and Brazil.

Lot of stars are unveiled like Gervinjho,Ozil,Alexi Sanches,André Ayew etc.So sad that we could not locate them before. Now that their must have rocketed.

  • Nick

20 minutes in and SA are up 1-0 on France. This has to be some cosmic joke.

  • manoo

seeing as france are doin awfully, surely gourcuffs and lloris’ values will drop, or at least not rise significantly. We could take advantage of that. secondly, joe cole has apparently (the sun) told ‘friends’ hes goin 2 man utd, so now theyre favourites. dont mind either way on that one- hes askin a bit much in my opinion with his wages, could be better used somewere else

  • RVP

j.cole will not join man utd his has had(or is having) a baby and does not want to move.also all bookies will not take bets on j.cole moving to arsenal

  • Nick

@manoo… exactly what I was thinking. We should strike while Gourcuffs value is down a bit. He didn’t play well at all during the cup but who could under Domenech? This might also hurt us in terms of people trying to poach Diaby and Sagna.
