Match Day Live: Birmingham vs Arsenal

Despite the murmurs from Arsene about focussing on today ahead of the Barcelona game, it’s interesting to see that he has opted to rest key players, Samir Nasri and Andrei Arshavin.

The confirmed line up is…

Almunia

Sagna – Campbell – Song – Clichy

Denilson – Diaby

Walcott – Cesc – Rosicky

Bendtner

With a bench of Fabianski, Nasri, Eduardo, Vela, Arshavin, Eboue and Traore.

Is it a risk? Or is it good use of a squad of players…

On a separate note, where is Silvestre, he is not even on the bench?

  • Kuka

Just noticed too that Silves is not even on the bench….
so pretty much no full-back cover at this rate

  • devday

Yeah, looking at the main site, it looks like there is no injuries to him either – you’ve got to wonder they had a disagreement when Silvestre found out he wasn’t on the bench!

  • devday

    Prediction Kuka?

  • Kuka

3-1 to the Arsenal. I just feel that we are unstopable at the moment.B/city’s luck is running out and we are just on a great end of momentum. I don’t do predos, but will go with a 3-1 to the Arsenal

  • Kuka

I was more concerned with the Hull away than B/city away

  • devday

Do you think the line up would be the same if we didn’t have Barcelona next?

  • devday

@kuka, join us in the chat room!

  • Kuka

Realistically, I think Wenger thinks he is got a better chance With the pl run-in. He he would have done the same irrespective of Barca. Is it a gamble, I do not think so, he needs Walcott to scare if b/city

  • devday

Very close to a goal twice – excellent start!

  • Kuka

@devday: for some reason I can’t join the chat room. I seem
limited as am posting from my iPhone

  • Kuka

    Any links showing the game?

  • Kuka

Watching Chelsea-Villa hoping Villa can do us a favor

  • devday

Not liking this pressure from birmingham

  • devday

watching it on satellite at the moment
    come on you gooners!

  • devday

    chelsea are 1 -0 up

  • Sam

    Song isn’t his usual self.

  • devday

    Come on Arsenal!

  • Sam

Why does this ref hate Arsenal?!

  • Sam

    Fu@king divers.

  • manoo

    get in villa- 1-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • devday

    Chelsea 1 – 1 Villa

  • Sam

    Chelsea 1-1!

  • Sam

The A-holes foul, the bit@c ref gives yellow to Gunners.
    Hope Cesc is OK.

  • Sam

2-1 to Chelsea, a penalty saves them.

  • Kuka

We need something special on from the boys.

  • Kuka

ESPN reports that Cesc is limping off at half time. Hope the guy is OK. I still think Villa can get a second. Chelsea doesn’t look safe

  • Sam

We need an inspiring half-time talk from AW.
Cesc is back on the pitch. He hasn’t been his best today.

  • Sam

    3-1 Chelsea now.

  • Sam

    Ouch! 4-1 for Chelsea.

  • devday

Where is Bendtner today? Not really in the game…

  • devday

    Argh, we need to win!

  • devday

Arshavin and Nasri on for Rosicky and Walcott

  • Sam

5-1, I hate bearing bad news.

  • devday

    Cesc definitely injured, still playing…

I am thinking maybe Eduardo for Cesc, move in Nasri to the Cesc position

  • Sam

    Eboue for Sagna?
    Keep the faith…

  • Sam

    SUPER SUB NASRI!!!!!!

  • Sam

Gunners are starting to warm their engine up for Barca…
1-0 means 3 points, all we asked foe!

  • Sam

    Chelsea winning 6-1!
They only collect the same 3 points as us.

  • Sam

    Not kidding, but chelsea 7-1!

  • Sam

    It’s over, 1-1.

  • Zegooner

    :-( .

  • manoo

seeing that scoreline change as bham scored on ss news was sooooooo depressing, especially as nasri apparently shudve doubled the lead. TBH. i wudve taken a draw at the start as its a hard place to go. but to go ahead and be within a minute of winning, and to drop 2 points like that, it hurts a lot.

  • Sam

This hurts bad, but… Let’s look at the positives & move on.
This team has already over-achieved, remember how everyone thought we’d struggle this season.
All teams have dropped points, this week was our turn.
A United loss to Bolton, and then next week’s Chel-United game will get us back into it again.
It could have been different, but let’s move on with what we’ve got!
    C’mon Gunners!!!

  • Kuka

Happy with the draw. It was our turn to drop some points. Just hoping United drop some today

  • goonerman

six straigth wins and then we drop two points away to birmingham were im sure man u lost and chelsea drew so lets not give up hope! we will fight untill we win the title or until it is mathmatically impoissible to win the title so lets not slate the team as they have done amazing so far! i hope the lads keep spirits up and are up for the barca game which im sure they will be!!

  • goonerman

    Another united own goal!!
that lucky train just keeps steaming along, i hate them dirty manc mugs!

  • vj

title charge over at birmingham again maybe

  • Sam

Man-lucky-united ahead by an own goal, but man of the match has been Wilshere so far. Wish he played for Gunners tonight.

  • Kuka

Yeah, Wilshere is running the show down there. Really great that he can get to play in such important games. I still think Bolton can still get something from this. Let’s keep our faith.

  • Gooner Get Ya

How bad is Almunia!!! That could’ve cost us the league.

  • JDD

    man u win 4-0
    chelsea win 7-1
    we draw 1-1

    man u 4 points ahead
    chelsea 3 points ahead

    is the race over?NO

yes the task of winning the league is much harder now that both teams gd is considerably better than ours and the fact they both have 2 slip up in 2 games.hopefully wel see a draw nex weekend.

  • goonerman

ur rite jdd if we beat wolves next week and man u and chelsea draw then we are back to square 1 with plenty of interesting games to be played so lets not give up hope just the next week could be crucial so the team needs a lot of support

  • Kuka

@JJD: Yeah, I do think it’s not in our hands any more. We need an act of God and favor from other results. A draw between United and Chelsea and a win for us will reduce the gap to 2 points. As it stands Chelsea has a slightly tough run-in compared to United. So if in the event that Chelsea win, we could close the gap on United and hope that Chelsea looses to either Liverpool or spurs, while praying that United do loose to City and draw against spurs.

All am saying brothers and sisters is that: It is extremely dangerous place where we are now. We basically have to watch other games more than ours

  • JDD

just watching the highlights on motd.all i can say is almunia is pure SHIT how can you do that.also did anyone see diaby’s goal?how can the ref give that as a foul he just used his strength.

  • JAT

absolutely gutted. was there today and we all went beserk when nasri scored. freak equaliser and doesn’t it always happen to us? was there in 2008 and today i thought we’d buried the nightmare of two years ago. instead it was like living the same nightmare twice. maybe we were asking too much in seeking 100% wins til the end of the season. next up…barca.

i’ve never been one of the more optimistic gooners, and it’s refreshing to see so many on here who think that today’s result is not the end of the world, but we could be looking at another one of those end-of-season weeks where we’re out of everything in a matter of days. sad thing is that today’s result didn’t really hurt that much…i’m so used to our season ending in devastation that it makes no difference anymore. but you gotta keep dreaming, so let’s start with a clean sheet and, who knows, maybe a victory on wednesday. lionel who?

  • Pissed off

@ JAT – Lionel Messi of cos. “Defenders greatest nightmare”. The good news is that Vermelean will be available but of worrying issue is Fab’s injury and the lack of confidence showing in Arshavin’s play. If we don’t win anything this season (I still belief we will we win the league) we have to question our efficiency in attack as well as the goalkeeping; the defence I won’t blame that much considering our philosophy.

  • JDD

iniesta(in my opinion on of the top 3 players in the world)looks set to miss both legs.if cesc is not fit for the first leg this will make the news a bit better to take.
my line up for wednesday would be-

Almunia(even though hes shit hes still just our best goaly)
    Clichy Vermaelen Campbell Sagna
    Diaby Song Fabregas/Nasri
    Arshavin Bendtner Nasri/Eboue

  • goonerman

Watching goals on sunday kammy clearly shows ont he replays that the ball was trying to be played through to benitez who was a mile offside so from the second the ball left the player passing the ball the flag should of gone up and even DEFOE our arch rival admitted the flag would go up 9/10 time BUT arsenal dont get to much luck and i suppose the bit of luck we had in the previous games come back to haunt us lol! still though we have to time to mope around we have to get up for a TOUGH TOUGH game!

Reports are saying fabregas is going to have some intense treatment to give him a chance for wednesday and obviously i hope he plays but the weird thing is that when fabregas was ruled out of the porto game our chances were halfed of winning the game so it sort of inspired the team to prove people wrong so im sure if he was out the team would yet again want to prove we aint no 1 man team!

before wednesday i think we should all be praying bayern pull off something special against man u!!

  • Josiah

i think if we beat barca and progress to the semi final, we will win it, because the buzz we will get from being the underdogs and beating last years winners will be intense

  • rajendra

I recommend some people take a look at the league table, look at the games to be played and form a decision accordingly. It is going to be difficult there is no doubt but when I see the comments about the manager I guess that can be put down to anger and feelings but when I see comments about gutless players I think what about the minority of our gutless fans who actually think they can question people who risk all for them week in week out. Oh yes, we are all very good at fighting the cause when a player gets tackled badly and injured but when we have the absolute tenacity to draw away at Birmingham, a team incidentally that also drew at home with both Man U and Chelsea, we seem to be bully boys who are all but coward like glory seeking fans. This only sing when your winning mentality is what I and I know many other supporters despise about some of our Arsenal fans, typical short term clowns. I personally respect the need for free speech and opinions but this type of change your view with the weather “support” is pointless. When I look at posters like usualsuspects and gunerspundit I see fans who have been consistent throughout in the same way that fans like Arsenal_al, CC and others have stuck to their reasoning throughout. Like their views or not they are being supportive in their own ways but this pathetic change your view like you change your socks (in some cases) is simply boring. The reality for me is that we have 18 points to go, we cannot change the team so until the summer when changes can be made it is pointless whinging and bitching, personally I will get behind the team 100% until the season ends and I have been around long enough to know that football changes every week and nothing has been decided just yet.
