Arsenal are seeking loan talks with AC Milan for striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The London Evening Standard says the Gunners are in the market for a striker after Arsene Wenger admitted he is planning for the second half of the season without Robin van Persie, who is recovering from an operation to repair torn ankle ligaments.

The Arsenal manager baulked at the asking price as Huntelaar joined the Italians for £14million from Real Madrid in August but the 26-year-old Dutchman has struggled to break into the first team at the San Siro.

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has warned the player that his place in his squad for next summer's World Cup will be under threat if he is not playing regularly.

I have been following the discussions so far and it is really interesting that no one thinks that Wenger will look to the Premier league for re-inforcements. I think he is a big admirer of Carlton Cole and he will be an excellent signing provided he is injury free...on previous submissions on this forum i have listed the benefits of having a player like Cole...b'cos he has a lot more over players like Dzeko, Gignac, Toni, Chamakh...

1. Does not need to adapt to the league given that most of the games now are over winter.knows the ins and outs

2. Big and tall

3. Close control and first touch have improved tremendously...which is critical to whatever formation Wenger employs.

4. Can play as a lone man upfront in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 by bringing the midfielders and wide players into the game.

5. Joining a team like arsenal would provide a good platform for playing himself into the squad for the world cup.

For the England team this would be good as the players at arsenal will definitely bring a lot out of him. Personally for Cole it will be a huge motivational platform to play to his best abilities (no disrespect to the Hammers).

With regards to Toni i think we should look at his attitude over the last year...giving similar problems we've had with Ade

Adriano who just won the brazilian championship i understand is also free...he seems to have gotten over his "personal problems" then again you never know. He is also big, skillful and strong. I don't know how motivated he is to play through the winter...however the carrot to show case his talents again prior to the world cup could do the trick as he still has hopes of being picked by Dunga. I understand Wenger was interested in him when he was having problems at Inter. Inter however demanded Hleb or Cesc in return, that killed the deal.

Dev, I can honestly see benefits to both. I'd have to say Dzeko due to him being in form right now and having a steady starting role. Klaas is pretty deadly (as he's proven) once he's worked himself into his new squad. He killed for Real last year once he got his chance and acclimated to Real. Dzeko is taller and seems a little stronger so I'd probably go with Edin. But I wouldn't mind having both!

IMO, lose Bendtner, he's just never impressed me and he's too big of a showboat. All I see is him trying to take everyone on and the losing the ball.

Eddie is coming back and with more games and longer runs in the game he'll be back to himself. Theo is another story. I'm not sure what's going on with him. Just can't find the back of the net.

guys i think wenger already has someone in mind, no dzeko no chamakh no toni (i think), why wouldsign chamakh when he gets him free in the summer plus he said he wants to stay, dzeko is going nowhere either, it will be someone we have missed, could be pazzini, could be andre-pierre gignac, before wenger said he wants someone of quality, cheap and not CL tied, now he says he would consider them if they filled the first two categories so i think there is someone who he has already thought of, we will have to wait and see who it is

i'm pretty sure i read a quote of le boss saying that he hadnt ruled out the possibility of signing a cup bound player, citing arshavin as an example of why that isnt necessarily a bad thing to do
