It’s here… the Carling Cup game.

We’re playing a good mix of experience and youngsters, here’s the line up:

Fabianski

Eboue – Song – Silvestre – Traore

Eastmond – Ramsey

Wilshere – Rosicky - Merida

Vela

It’s a been strange to see Song at centre back considering the boy could do with a rest…

I’ll stop rambling on now and move over to the comments…

    Man City:

    Given

    Richards – Toure – Lescott – Bridge

    Barry – Ireland

Wright Philips – Tevez – Bellamy

    Adebayor

  2. devday says on :

Man City are doing some stupid moon thing, they’ve turned off the lights… really weird….

  3. wills says on :

Has anyone got a stream for the game? I’m stuck listening to it on 5 Live at the moment.

Who is playing towards the Arsenal fans?

  4. devday says on :

The greatest slip ever by Ade

  5. devday says on :

Man City playing well… it should have been 1-0 to them, bellamy misses a great chance.

  6. devday says on :

Great chance for Vela… just over…

  7. Josiah says on :

    Blackburn 1-0

How come man city have their first team out?

  8. devday says on :

Man City are really kicking lumps out of us… Tevez has had a swipe at a couple of players and kicked out at Rosicky.

Ref allowing everything from Man City.

Man City fouls, 28, yellow cards, 0

Arsenal fouls, 3, yellow cards 2

    It’s one of those games.

  9. Fabrez says on :

Ref is rubbish and under pressure from Man City fans and Hughes. Poor lads looking at 7 draws and a loss… I gueess that makes u kick out at players and pressure refs… Ah well. Seems as if we’ve beeb giving a great account of ourselves. Strength & depth hey? Still 45 mins to go now.

    HT: City 0-0 Arsenal

  10. Fabrez says on :

    *lad’s

    *guess

  11. wills says on :

Can’t believe Chelsea are loosing! Typical, I’ve got a bet on Arsenal and Chelsea both to win!

  12. Josiah says on :

    tevez 1-0

  13. devday says on :

Rosicky is our most experienced player – gave the ball away and Tevez scores. 1-0

  14. wills says on :

Rosicky has looked very poor tonight in my opinion.

With Merida and Wilshere playing, it looks like we’re playing a 4-5-1 most of the time, Vela is looking quite isolated. Give them another 5 mins and then I’d stick Watt on for Rosicky and go 4-4-2

  15. devday says on :

    Wilshere – Rosicky – Merida

Those three have looked so average. Rosicky has been terrible. Wilshere looks well off his game and I can’t recall Merida passing right.

  16. Kuka says on :

Am extremely pleased with the kids though. Despite being a goal down, they have held their own

  17. devday says on :

    Man City 2 – 0 Arsenal…. SWP scores… it’s all over.

  18. wills says on :

Error from Silvestre there, everyone who’s watched football knows that SWP is only right footed, therefore he should’ve showed him inside.

Nevermind, we’ve kept Adebayor quiet at least and it’s good experience for the younger players. Good to see Watt on.

  19. Debs says on :

How odd that it was experience that let us down for both goals…

  20. Shawn says on :

nice result to round up an impressive 2 weeks . . . so frustrating

  21. Debs says on :

Good spirit shown by the lads today though. Good stuff.

  22. sam says on :

3 games, 3 losses, 6 goals conceded, 0 goals scored, very few shots on target.

  23. sam says on :

    Make that 7 goals conceded!

  24. Debs says on :

    Gutted though.

  25. Kuka says on :

I think it would be encouraging for a young team like this one if they had an experienced game changer on the bench. Looking at our bench, I do not see any. Cos when a team looses with a such a huge margin, am not sure if it’s encouraging at all to them

  26. Debs says on :

    Off the bar from Merida!

  27. Debs says on :

Would have loved a goal, though :-(

  28. Berth says on :

    wenger is a slow learner

  29. dave says on :

    wenger seriously needs to re think his policy;

think the below quote sums it up for me:
“No heroics so far from Arsene Wenger’s youngsters. If Arsenal go out tonight, then Wenger’s wisdom in playing this youthful side must be questioned. Arsenal have not won enough trophies in recent years to pass up the chance of winning the Carling Cup – principles or no principles.”

    WENGER OUT

  30. Josiah says on :

beat stoke, get back to winning ways, play all young team for last champions league game, beat liverpool following weak, dampen their chances, then beat burnley hull aston villa portsmouth, then in january buy a striker

  31. Debs says on :

Poor Fabianski. All of the goals were unstoppable!

  32. dave says on :

Wenger’s an embarrasment, walking off without shaking Hughes hand is childish and shows him…and us, in a very bad light. Wenger is the sorest loser I know and I thought Fergiescum was bad.
Nothing positive to take from tonight really, Song was awful in defence, diving in all over the place, Rosicky and Ramsey were very poor, Vela needed someone up alongside him…..god it’s depressing. We really don’t look like we have a forward player who can score?
It’s hard to be positive about the next few games……if we lose against another ’small’ club in the next couple then the shit will really hit the fan.

  33. jim says on :

Im gutted, another loss away to city but lets be honest who here is actually surprised, this was always going to happen when you put out a mix of your 3rd team and 1st team subs away to the likes Teves, Ireland, SWP, Bellamy, Barry, Given, Lescott etc…
Im fed up of us acting like its ok to loose this game because we put out a shit squad. Pathetic etcuse to be honest, city didnt pick our squad list, we did! I know its only the carling cup but with the current squad we have we’re not going to win the league, our best chance of making this season a sucess will be to win a cup.

  34. Kuka says on :

Wenger should stop this habit of not shaking the hands of opposing managers, especially when we loose. It does not work well for the club. Was terrible to see him walk away without saying with Mark Hughes

  35. Gooner Get Ya says on :

I have not seen the game and glad I didn’t after seeing the result. Not that bothered about the Carling cup but I still don’t like us loosing. The team sheets were a major mismatch tonight so I am not suprised at the result.

  36. Debs says on :

Blackburn beating Chelsea eases the (predictable) pain of losing to Citeh!

  37. Gooner Get Ya says on :

Did Blackburn win? I saw it was 3-3 did it go to pens?

  38. Debs says on :

Yup. It went to penalties, and Robinson saved Kakuta’s decisive spot kick. Awesome stuff.

  39. Richiebacardi says on :

Yeah dunno why AW didn’t shake Hughes hand.

  40. Debs says on :

I really cannot stand Mark Hughes though. Wenger still ought to have shaken his hand though, but that’s nothing new.

  41. Leeroy.N says on :

Not much I can say really., I saw the first half. It was encouraging to say the least. A valiant effort from the Young Guns to the final whistle I hear, but it seemed we were mearly keeping them at bay until the first goal. A definate mismatch as someone put it earlier. I had to go to work, so I’m glad I missed the second half it sounds. But again, let’s pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and take the 3 important points from Stoke. Maybe it was an added distraction for some players, but an important lesson for others.

Win, Lose or Draw.. Gooner Til I Die!!

  42. goonerman says on :

theres a bit of video were you can lipread hughes call wenegr a W****r so why should weneger have to shake a mans hand who insults him during the match !

  43. Richiebacardi says on :

True. I think however Hughes must have said something to him to upset him…but then too look at the number of yellow cards we got too.

Needless to say Hughes will be talking about it for the rest of his short remaining time at city.

But hey, who said the Carling Cup is worthless…it looks like it’s costing some team over £200 million for it!

  44. vj says on :

god i am not happy to be an arsenal fan right now this really is pissing off i know its carling cup but again same type of game as the chelsea one, looking an january now, im thinking a striker of some form i dont know where and blaise matuidi or yaya toure as dm i hope rumors do start picking up

  45. fredric says on :

The last weeks have really put things into perspective and really showned that we are not ready to compete for big honors. But what the hell to due. Some questions has to be awnsered before we can really move on an perhaps begin working on solutions for the club in next year(yeah its sad to say this) Firstly is our board just seeing this club as a cash cow and thereby denying real investment into the team or has our manager gone mad and just reach a point where he will rather destroy all than switch strategy. We have now reach a point where all our players are so similar and we are pretty much the most lightweight team in the entire premiership.Further more a very unhealthy way of thinking have developed which clearly cant solve this. Its simply that so many are just thinking about how cheap this guy was bought compared to this and we should just be happy that we have made so many impressive cheap buys. THIS IS CRAP. because that way of thinking only gives the board more cash. yes it is fine our club is healthy i economic terms but atm we are reaching points there are simply to high 67m punds before tax in profit this year is simply to much profit due to so low investment in our team that we will never be able to compete. For me its simple wenger will not developed this team any further since he has go stuck in his own succes, and dont have the solutions to get out of it. Imo the solutions for this could be 1. get new manager.2 focus on defence, we are currently so bad in this department that it cant get worse. yes vermaelen and gallas is not a strong solution since we are close to being even more voeful than last year here. And get some bigger stronger players in and no more of these vela, walcott types of players. And BUY SOME ENGLISH WE NEED ENGLISH PLAYERS TO CREATE THE REAL SPIRIT indstead of meaningless players which are only here untill a greener solutions comes by.

  46. fredric says on :

Don’t really know what to say after last night. Seems to be another chapter of “same old same old”, different season, same problem. Forget the refereeing decisions, we lost to a better team who on the night played very well. Yes it was a second string side but I do worry for some of these kids being outclassed and outplayed so comprehensively. Dissapointed again with Wengers petulence. He is the manager of our club and the “figurehead” and should set an example to players and fans. I have been a fan of AW since he came to the club (Arsenal fan since the mid 70’s) and I have seen and suffered all the highs and lows. But I am starting to see big cracks in AW’s behaviour and philosophy. Maybe it is time for change? Whether that is in philosophy or in the management of the club. We seem to be trying to play 5 s side football with 11 on the pitch. There is no power or leadership in the team. Looking back at some of AW’s better sides, and early signings, we were always a very big physical team. PV, Manu, Edu, Gilberto, Henry, Campbell, Kanu and even Pires (over 6′1″)balanced “Touch” players with “Leaders” througout the team. Now the team are all the same stature. There is no balance to the side and no on the pitch leadership. We fail against any team who are organised as we are too predictable. As dangunner (Arsenal fan) said, I think we may struggle against stoke and I do fear we will not finish in the top 4 this year. We need to inject some fresh blood into the team and that must be quality. As far as strikers are concerned, Dzeko or Carlton Cole fit the bill for me. Yaya Toure in Midfield and Hangeland as CB. Although I doubt we will spend the money and end up with a cut price deal for Chamakh and nothing more.

  47. Sam says on :

It hurts to lose 3 games with 7 conceded goals & 0 scored. But, some of you are going too far. This is Arsenal as it is. I love it as it is. If I didn’t, I’d go support a spending club. Arsenal are an investment club, and we generate profit by buying low & selling high.

The owners & board don’t give a crap about silverware! Their business plan is working as long as they qualify for champions league, money keeps flowing in & share prices keep going up. That’s the club’s goal for now, and we can’t single out AW, it’s the entire club.

Sorry to burst a few bubbles with the truth. I love Arsenal as it is.

  48. Francis says on :

Sam you couldn’t have said it better. As long as the current business plan keeps the pounds rolling in, the directors are and will be happy. That’s the business plan…and Wenger has bought into it…Wenger has convinced the board that low cost buys and bargains will work and may actually bring in the occasional trophy.

Peter Hill Wood strategically coming out and saying that there is money to spend only serves to sooth fans for a while and after that everything goes back to normal. Besides Arsene naturally loathes spend big…unless forced to do so to maintain the status quo as in the case of Arshavin last year. The squad was in serious need of a game changing player as confidence was at an all time low.

Partly his philosophy of speedy passing and quick inter positional play with ball-playing players has not quite worked…giving that other clubs have worked out a game plan to stifle our style of play. The stature of our players hasn’t helped either as few of them can ride tackles as Vieira, Petit, Freddie, Parlour, Edu, Gilberto etc did and give in equal measure as well. Though I must admit that injuries have played a part.

Lets hope that our current striking force start finding the net sooner than later…cos there are quite a lot of games till Jan.

  49. Josiah says on :

Walcott is injured with a hamstring injury…
We play this team for stoke
    almunia
    sagna gallas vermaelen traore
    denilson ramsey
    rosicky cesc nasri
    eduardo

beat stoke with that team, play reserve squad against olympiacos, then play against liverpool:
    almunia
    sagna gallas werm traore
    denilson song
    arshavin cesc nasri
    eduardo

    win the game

move on from the bad patch were in.

  50. JDD says on :

we have apparently signed young Brazilian striker Zezinho from Juventude for 2-5mil.

there looks to be a list of 3 strikers that Wenger wants to sign in january
    -Edin Dzeko
    -Andre-Pierre Gignac
    -Marouane Chamakh

any of those 3 would be a great addition regardless of how well our strikers play till january.if our strikers are playing badly then maybe 2 strikers would be needed.we are also going to lose Song and Eboue to the African nations cup so maybe it will be a busy january.

  51. vj says on :

well said josiah heard we have a NEW SIGNING Zezinho 17 years old plays well somewhere in the midfield although youtube video shows hes a good tackler, will he start i dont know but i agree everyone has a bad patch ours are normally worse than others, none the less beat stoke beat liverpool and end the year within 6 points of chelsea and its game on

  52. Richiebacardi says on :

Our patch is a usually worse than others because as soon as Arsenal looses, the media jumps on the “won’t win anything” boat. It seems the just can’t wait to see us loose!

They just sensationalize our season and make a big deal out of it. I can’t remember them saying the same thing about chelsea when they lost to wigan. They called it a blip…we seem to throw away the season by loosing a game or two…rubbish the media!
