Today is a very important day for us… With two teams above us losing, in Villa and Chelsea, we must win to gain some ground on the top four. If we win today, we will swap places with Man City to get to sixth, with a game in hand on the current top 4 of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Sp*rs – and a win in game in hand would see us only 3 points behind United and Chelsea…

Before I look at today’s team news, we’ve had the Carling Cup draw today and we’ve got Liverpool at the Emirates on the 27th or 28th October… I’m hoping the 27th… Here’s the Carling Cup draw in it’s entirety:

Blackburn Rovers v Peterborough United
Manchester City v Scunthorpe United
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton
Barnsley v Manchester United
Chelsea v Bolton Wanderers
Sunderland v Aston Villa
Arsenal v Liverpool
Portsmouth v Stoke City

It will be an exciting game, and I’m sure if fit, Carlos Vela will start this one!

Fulham v Arsenal
Barclays Premier League, Craven Cottage
Saturday, September 26, 2009, 17:30

Okay, onto today’s game and the confirmed line up is:

Mannone

Sagna – Gallas – Vermaelen – Clichy

Song Billong – Diaby

Bendtner – Fabregas – Arshavin

Van Persie

And on our bench we have:

Szczesny, Rosicky, Vela, Ramsey, Silvestre, Eboue, Gibbs.

Come on you Gooners… time to switch to the comments and discuss the game…

Hey, I hope we wind this one. Is Eduardo injured?? was hoping Rosicky will start. Will swap Diaby for Rosicky and Fabregas playing the Diaby Role and Eboue for Bendtner. But lets hopes this works

    Can’t wait

    1-0 RvP

Full time 1-0 to Arsenal. Vito Mannone kept us in that big time!

Almunia beware! Lol. Good to know we’ve got an able deputy in goal! Wasn’t classic Arsenal, but it’s still good to see that we can still win matches 1-nil. But well-played Fulham though. It could have been oh so different without Mr Mannone! Winning ugly, eh?

    Hero of the day:
    Mannone.

  7. Fabrez says on :

Yeah debs…that’s wat I meant by winning ugly! Good on Vito! Lookin fwd 2 MOTD!

  8. Debs says on :

Yeah, you were spot on yesterday. We’d all love loads of goals,, but the gritty ones might even be more important, and to borrow a Wenger-ism, ‘we showed character’ to hold firm, and not concede any goals after all the pressure we were under. Two clean sheets in a row, as well! Awesome!

  9. JDD says on :

    mannone=first choice goaly
not gd back-up we have had 2 clean sheets in the league this season both when mannone is in goal he should start next week. average perfromance today but we got teh 3points.win our game in hand and were only 3 off the top.

And Arsenal v Liverpool in the league cup… I just had horrid visions of Torres doing unfriendly things to Silvestre! Not cool! I wonder to what extent AW will stick to the use policy on this 1? Sp*rs 4 days after…team selection will be interesting! I se Liverpool had their first choice CBs playing and the rest were their 2nd string albeit strong with Reira and Mascherano starting. Then guys likfe Gerrard, Torres & Johnson on the bench. Surely we’ll need 2 start with a decent mix of older n younger ones with a few big guns of our own on the bench…like Eboue for Gilbert at RB and maybe Nasri coming back from injury for Coquelin with Bendtner in for Sunu, Vela starting ahead of Traore and RvP, Cesc and Arsh on the bench? (All this is assuming nobody gets injured! Just a little brainstorm!

  11. Fabrez says on :

*I meant all 3 of “RvP, Cesc and Arsh” on the bench!

  12. Debs says on :

Yeah, I think Wenger’ll go for a mixture of both, with a few first-teamers on the bench, just in case they’re needed. But to be honest though, I think the reserves play with so so much confidence at the Emirates, so I don’t see Liverpool having an easy time, even if they come with a strong-ish squad. It’ll probably be a team like the one that played against Sp*rs in the Cup a while ago, when we lost 5-1, I think! But hopfully, there’ll not be a repeat of the scoreline, except maybe in our favour! Lol
But i think we’ve got key games in and around that time, so Wenger’ll probably be a bit cautious…

  13. Fabrez says on :

Yup…cautious as he always is! Oh how 5-1 to us would taste good! lol Look at this quote from SkySports…”Does Abou Diaby have a twin brother who stands in for him? He sometimes looks brilliant, at other times he looks like he should be playing in the Conference.” Ouch…lol Still behind him to establish some form of consistency this season tho…but with his fortune when it comes to injuries…questionable!

  14. Fabrez says on :

Wow…Torres is a beast…that hat-trick was as good as they can ever come. When he’s on form he’s class. Think RvP is capable of that kind of performance…hopes he shows it this season!

  15. Debs says on :

Yeah, I think RVP and Torres are very similar players, and I’m sure we’ll see similar performances from VP as the season goes on…
