Man City vs Arsenal – Match Day Live

The Premiership is back and it’s all kicking off today… we’ve employed a very defensive line up with Diaby, Denilson, Song and Cesc all starting… check out the line up:

Almunia

Sagna – Gallas – Vermaelen – Clichy

Denilson – Song

Bendtner – Cesc – Diaby

Robin Van Persie

Whilst Man City are without Tevez and Robinho and line up like this:

Given

Richards – Toure – Lescott – Bridge

De Jong – Barry

Wright-Philips – Ireland – Bellamy

Adebayor

Stay tuned, join in the comments, let’s see what we’re made of

  • Bonathan

Looks like diaby will be utilised in a LHS. Wasted there from what i’ve seen previous. NTS about the selection to be honest

  • Bonathan

    LHS role i meant

  • devday

Weird seeing Adebayor greet all the Arsenal players!!

  • Debs

    Yeah, really weird Dev.
Gosh I’m feeling nervous! Come on you gunners!

  • devday

We’re playing well… Gallas should have scored!

    Man City 1 – 0 Arsenal….!

First shot of the game – header by Richards, hit Almunia on the back on the head.

  • sam

Very soft.50 minutes & no shots on goal for Arsenal.

  • sam

Rosicky on, an d it’smore like it for Arsenal.

  • Fabrez

Rosicky to RvP! GOOOOOOOOOALLLLLL!!!! HAHA! LOVE IT!

  • sam

Arsenal have found their feet! Go one Gunners.

  • Fabrez

That RvP aint left footed…he’s 2 footed by now! Nothing but quality off the left peg! C’mon…we need another Gunners!!

  • Fabrez

    RVP down.
Gunners came late to party but are finding their tempo now!

  • Fabrez

ADEBAYOR U PIG! That was a blatant stamp on RvP! I’m losing my cool…that was uncalled for! Ade is a punk man..

  • sam

Ade bloodies RVP’s face, Song gets a booking!!!!!

  • devday

    City scored. Bellamy.

    3-1, Ade

  • http://worldofarsenal.co.uk Josiah

Wish we could have done better today.

  • sam

    Too soft. 4-1.

  • Ronco

big fight for 4th this season. Hate to think who’l leave if we don’t get it

  • Bonathan

Yep, Embarrasing i’m afraid. I just hope we can come back from this. gonna be a hard slog this year

  • Pete

    4-2 Rosicky

  • sam

RVP hits the woodwork. Teams that concede 4 goals, and concede every game, don’t win much.

  • Gooner til i die

That greedybayor shd be get a red card for that… Damn him..
    Nice job gooners…

Arsenal today lose to wright philips and bellamy and almunia again… sniff…

  • http://gmail.com joel sequeira

we sucked i don have words … just one positive though my mom has joined the offecial i hate ade fan club …. she knows notthin about football ( her first game ever … sigh!)

  • Debs

that was one hell of a match. Ade’ll get all the headlines, but for all the wrong reasons…

  • Fabrez

I feel physically sick…like seriously. We lose badly and Ade scores? He kicks RvP and celebrates in front the Arsenal fans? Well who thought a defeat could hurt like this? :(

  • sam

Don’t want to be negative in such dark moments, but we simply weren’t good enough.

  • Pete

4-2 full time. We play badly in the first half and only concede when we make a mistake. Then we play much better in the second half and concede 4.

As for Adebayor, what a classless twat. Don’t care how good he is, he’s sunk even lower in Arsenal fans eyes.

  • Debs

I need a few minutes to understand what happened in that match… Lost for words, but all I can say is, we are not winning the league like this!

  • Fabrez

Yeah…we could have been much better. Rosicky was a live-wire and very decisive and that’s what I love to see. 2 straight defeats tho…that stings A LOT! Cesc was too damn deep man… I couuld go on but i won’t bother! :( Time to go look at the fixture list and see if it has been nice to us.

  • Debs

The table doesn’t make good reading.

  • Debs

On a plus note, Rosicky was awesome. Great to have him back.

  • Debs

The stamp on RVP by Ade’s still making my blood curl! Don’t know what Ade was thinking. He says the Arsenal fans hate him, which most do, but he goes and makes it worse!

  • Fabrez

Deep down I still feel this can be our season but we need 2 go on a winning streak bcuz dropping more points anytime soon is trouble. Where did we go wrong tho? I’m going out in a bit so will give it some thought and chat with u lads & laddies later! Definitely NOT looking at match of the day…maybe if Man U lose. And Chelsea get another goal in stoppage time. How do they do it… *sigh* Adios amigos!

  • kuka

….Terrible result for us, but am tempted to walk away tall. Adebayor didnt need to behave the way he did and am glad he is not playing for us. That is no way to act and he forgets that there is a return to Emirates in a few months….shame on him….

….Having said that, we of all the top four have had the toughest first four games except for Portsmoth…..

  • AJ

I hate Adebayor, truly. As for the result, its a disgrace. We need a goal scorer who will just put the ball in the back of the net.

Oh did I mention I hate Adebayor?

  • sam

We scored 2, that’s pretty OK.
Our problem lies in defence & goal-keeping. You give yourself no chance when you concede 4!!!

  • GunnersaurusRex

The Good: Gallas and Varmaelen strong attacking threats.
The Bad: Gallas and Varmaelen strong attacking threats.

Could someone please stay back and defend. Obviously its great when they score on setplays, but I kept seeing Gallas move into a striking role and one of our best shots on goal was Varmaelen’s blast from about 30 yds.

We scored 18 goals but given up 14…

  • Debs

We do have one, AJ- Eduardo! And you can even count Arshavin as one as well.

  • jien

oh we simply didn’t play well today. Man city played better than us. We were lost of ideas during the 1st half. but the positives are van persie scored, little mozart’s back with a goal and we still attack all out ( maybe too much till we concede 3 goals) in the closing stages. We should have started the game playing the way we ended it… Looked like we could have come back and win it after we equalized… so frustrating..

maybe the internationals really tired out our players..

  • Debs

But then though, as Arsene said, don’t think we had enough time to prepare. The lads came back late after the internationals, then we had to travel all the way to Manchester. I don’t think there was adequate preparation. Most of the guys played on Wednesday outside of the country, and probably didn’t get back until thursday, maybe even friday, so we probably had only one day to prepare. I guess the same as City, but then, they played at gome. Not a good enough excuse, but it was definitely a contributing factor to a performance that wasn’t actually too bad, but we were just a bit short.
Oh, seems Spurs have taken the lead against Man U! It’s going to be an interesting league this season!

  • Fabrez

Oh yeah…b4 i go…4got it was Spurs who were playing Man U…well in that case a draw would suit me!

  • Berth

We were messed up today; Ade – ba – youn!!!

  • jien

well, fabrez, i would rather prefer man u to lose. hope our neighbours do us a favour today…

  • VJ

to be honest guys we deserved to lose. vermaelen was not beasty today, song was poor as well. their experiance and skill got the better of us. wenger fell into the trap of attcking too much and city countered and scored 4!. its a good lesson to learn for this season. hopefully we can dust ourselves off and start that riduculous run we had last season. there are not many positives to take today unlike the united game. B52 is awful and should not have started. walcott arshavin and eduardo to replace please. at leadt van persie has now got going. great return for rosicky he gave us that width we lacked all game. so rosicky for denilson arshavin for bentner and eduardo/walcott for diaby and we will be unstobbalble

  • mesol

Arsenal need to bounce back..2 straight lose is bad for league title..As I said earlier we need a good experience player..not a school boy age..whether it expensive or not,we have to find it..To Wenger, take the losing game to change your policy..not all the kid you bought will be good as hendry..Dont say you dont have the money..Arsenal is for the fans..its not yours only..I felt very frustating you didn’t bought any new player beside Vermaelen..I know you will be thinking to buy a new player after this..but is’t too late..Arsenal are in losing streak..and once again, if we didnt win anything this season, you will say its because injury, young player in progress etc bla, bla bla..but you dont prepare the back up..its your job to prepare the back up player..if you cant handle this job, please clear your desk..huh!

  • kuka

…it might not be the time to question our team. I do not think we can right away start questioning our defense or goal-keeping. City have had a great run and credit to them, they did play really well and would have scored against anyone. What I would rather do, is take the positives from the game. Arsenal played well in the 2nd half. Its four games down road and I am sure two games is all we are loosing…..

  • Debs

I don’t really think we can judge the rest of the season by just this match. The game had a lot of needle from the start, and it could definitely have gone anywhere. It kind of reminded me of derbies against Spurs, and in my opinion, City won, not because they’ll finish above us in the league, or because they are better than us, but because they had an ex-player in their team who has a personal vendetta against us, and I’m not talking of Toure. Our next few games in the league are relatively easy and we should be able to get back on track. And besides, we don’t have to go to Manchester in the league again this season!

  • Debs

Anyways, if we wanted to forget about the league for a few days, which I’m sure we all do, there’s a Champions League game in mid-week! But oh, it’s an away match, and we’ve lost our last 2 away games! lol. But I think we’ll be alright. It’s in Belgium, if I’m right? It’s against Standard Liege.

  • locks

Hate to be negative, but any optimism I had for us this season has just got up and left!! We had a good start wining four games, but that does not mean much in a whole season. We have to be brutally honest and admit that once again we will not be good enough to win anything for the 5th season running.

Our defensive play has been our weak point for years, but our manager choose to but a single player in the window. I guarantee that by the end of this season not only will it be clear that we need a defensive midfielder, but a goal keeper too!!

Losing 4 – 2 against Man City is Depressing stuff!!

    What next, 6th place???

  • Debs

Interesting scheduling by the way. This week, the top 6 in the league played themselves, next week, the top 4 in the league play themselves as well! What a coincidence!

  • Vazy

    Ade-boo-BARTON!

Even the sky sports news ticker on my phone pointed out that he did it on purpose and he should have been sent off! (match bans awaiting perhaps? Maybe not knowing our luck…)

Good news about our 2 year out Tommy R, defo wanna see match of the day tonight for that! Gotta take some positives from this game!

Also it’s way too early to be blasting arsenal!

P.s. Even the fence sitters must be hating the complete arseholeness of Ade-boo-BARTON!

  • Debs

And locks, this season’s not like last season. We’ve not twice, but not to Stoke or Hull, we’ve lost to Man U and Man City, so it’s nothing to be too worried about, even though we should have won the Man U one, and the City one was a bit embarrassing. No need to worry yet, mate. Don’t think anyone at the club is playing for 6th place!

  • t

    9 points behind already. wow

  • kuka

It could be the case that am too naive, but there is a pattern that I have observed amongst some of us Arsenal fans which is pathetic. A few days ago, we were world beaters, unbeatable and the best team in town. We do loose two games – one that we deserved to win and we are suddenly a team in shambles. Do not get me wrong, am gutted, just the same way everyone else is, but I did watch that game against United and today against City, and trust me, Arsenal is Class. We played against a city side that is having an OK run and they did put in a good show. Let us face it, it is part of the game. The moment you choose to love this beautiful game, you had better develop the thick skin to deal with such moments, otherwise, you will pull your hair, if not your heart out.

…..It is a pity that after two defeats, Varmalleen, Gallas and the rest of the defense becomes a disaster. Trust me, any team and I mean any time would snap our defense and play them as they are. Song has done well for the team and continues to improve. Its a shame to already be hitting at him.

….So let us try be consistent as fans. We demand the same of our players, but we fail to realise that we have a role to play as well. We need to believe in them. THANK God we do not have to put on the jersey and get to the pitch. At times, all we have to do is seat in the comfort of our living rooms and criticize the boys. I do admire some clubs and I will not mention examples. Clubs whose fans have a never die attitude. Trust me, it hurts the players more. Its indeed true that Arsenal belongs to the fans too, but let us not for once assume that there is a player who walks to that pitch with a target to loose a game…

…..So am looking forward to Wednesday….knowing quite well that we have a team that is envied all round the country and world……

  • Berth

But Debs it is almost impossible to win the league; I think Man city were the better side, they really overshadowed our midfield and made us look so ordinary.

I won’t call names but some players really need not start games for Arsenal; I think we have had enough of the experiment, lets be decisive and precise – personally Edu should start majority of our matches; he has that x – factor in him. But honestly we were outclassed by quality and money of a very good team(Man u should be a test); at first I did think that Wenger’s class as a coach will best Hughes; but never happened.

One thing is this – No league or trophy this season, then you will see us struggle to retain Cesc, Arshavin, Vermeeelean and V.P

  • Debs

I did say we won’t win the league in my early post, Berth. But then though, it’s too early to call. also, the gap between the top 6 (i.e the top 4 plus Spurs and City) is pretty much close, and whoever wins the league will end up losing not 2 matches, but between 4-6, because most teams are capable of beating each other on their day. We’ve lost 2, don’t mean we’ll end up out of the top 4. I’m not worried about where we’ll end up this season, but winning the league is another story. But you never know, we’ve lost two, but if we forget about those 2 goals, put up a very good and consistent run, and you never know what will happen.

    But to other interesting news:

Robin van Persie has issued the following statement following an incident with Emmanuel Adebayor at Saturday’s game:

“I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor’s mindless and malicious stamp on me during today’s match.

“We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today.

“I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made. He moved backwards when his natural momentum would have taken him forward. I find that deeply disrespectful. He has shown a real lack of class today, to me and the fans.

“I do feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury. The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football. It’s bad for the game we all love.

“I want to make it clear that this has nothing to do with the result of today’s match. We do not hide from that disappointment but I need to speak out about his behaviour.”

    Someone’s in trouble!

  • kuka

@ Berth: Aint they (Arshavin, Fabregas, Varmellen, RvP) the ones who should win the tropihies. They do play week in week out…..I guess it is their duty to win trophies and no one else…

  • Debs

You could say City were the better team, Berth, but they were at home, so it’s a good advantage to have. But also, if RVP hadn’t hit the post, it’d have been 4-3, and you never know. City were marginally better, because we were chasing the game, and they took advantage of their counter-attacks. We’ll see how the season pans out, Also, let’s see how we fare on the return leg.

  • Berth

Exactly KUKA – I just want someone to tell me we have that class which Diaby, ebuoe and a few in the squad can’t give us – I really want the quality to show and not quantity.

@ Debs – Thanks for the V.P comment. But Debs, I think we the fans need more than we were offered today. I know we have injuries, but the 4 goals we conceded was with our strongest back 4 + our best DMF – I think we lacked so much control and actually took off our foot from the fifth gear after we scored; that shows we lack maturity and experience;I will like to know you lots opinion about Song,Denison and Diaby…….

  • Debs

Don’t think Denilson had his best games today, but he’s had a good season so far. Song and Diaby were awesome against Man U last time round, except for the own goal, ofcourse. We all moan that we don’t have a strong tackler in midfield- Song is exactly that, and Diaby can do that as well. Diaby just tends to lose concentration sometimes. if only there was a way to prevent him from actually knowing how much time has gone/is left in the game, maybe he’ll be able to concentrate for the whole match lol. I do think the 3 of them are good players, but I was a bit surprised we actually played the 3 of them today, as well as Cesc! If you ask me, I think it’s better to have just 2 out of the 3 of them playing a match at the same time. Maybe when Nasri’s back we’ll see less of that.
As for the goals we conceded Berth, I think it was because we were chasing the game, and really wanted to win it, so there were loads of gaps at the back. I don’t think we’d have conceded such goals if we were in front in the game, but we never were. I’d be more worried if we conceded those goals from winning positions. I think sometimes you will concede those goals on the counter when you’re looking for goals, and that’s what happened. I’m more impressed with the fact that even after falling 4-1 behind, we didn’t actually look like we were out of it, and the scoreline flattered City a whole lot. I don’t think we took our foot off after we scored, Berth, because we were well on top then and we were actually the team that looked more likely to score the next goal, and like I said, if there wasn’t a certain player called Ade on the pitch today, I don’t think City would have recovered from the pressure we were piling on them.
I’m taking this result as a one-off, to be honest, because I don’t think it was your average match, because there was a lot of background to the fixture. It almost felt like a Spurs match to be honest, but yeah, not the result we wanted, but really, I’d forget about it.

  • Fabrez

    Ok guys…this is how I see it…

In fairness to us, the 1st goal was a howler. That really really disappointed me like I’m sure it did all of us fans. Sure we can say the international break wasn’t ideal for preparation but neither was it for City as Debs mentioned much earlier. Almunia…he can’t use the international break as an excuse and his error was major! He just had horrid timing there. Disappointing indeed. I guess the other 3 goals were on account of us really going for the match at 1-1 then the rest of goals trying to get something from it. Let’s face it…going to super rich Man City was never going to be easy bcuz their support has been tremendous. Their support was amazing! They really helped fire the boys up for what was their “first real test” this season. So to me, City had more to prove and they really proved themselves with Robinho and Tevez.

Our flying start to the season has spoilt us already I guess…bcuz we altho 2day City deserved the victory, I firmly believe we can get silverware this season. It’s hard to say “Arsene should…” but it was amazing to see the influence Tomas Rosicky had on the game. In terms of our team selection…I have an issue with Diaby being on the left. He really aint that kinda player. He’s a through the centre player. Edu should have started if u ask me. We need to have a settled starting line-up! I kno injuries have an effect but we really needed sum1 like Arshavin today. We really missed him. We needed that guy who can change a game in a heartbeat and we didn’t really have 1.

As for Ade…i try not to swear so…I really really don’t like u man. I did when u were at Arsenal but the stamp at RvP hurt me more than his STUPID celebration. We’ve got Arsh, Edu and RvP so we don’t need him. I really hope the FA look into the incident because that bothers me deeply.

But we can moan and moan and moan a bit more and we get nowhere. So as REAL Arsenal supporters, let’s really get behind the manager and the players bcuz if we love this Club, we will support them unconditionally. We need to trust the players and the gaffer. They need to know we r behind them even when stuff gets a bit messy.

  • Fabrez

    *without Robinho and Tevez

  • Fabrez

Good call Debs…we’ve missed Samir a bit to be honest!

  • Fabrez

I think if Arsene had his way team-wise we’d probably see Nasri and Arsh instead of Diaby and Bendtner today. And agreed about Demilson…he was flat today but good so far this season. In truth, Denilson should have been a bit more into it seein that he too has nothing to do during the in’tional break. But hey, this fixture is probably 1 of the toughest we’ll play all season. Seemed harder than the Man U fixture! Chins up lads…nxt game in 4 days then Wigan! :)

  • Debs

Yeah, looking forward to Wigan. They’ve had a poor time recently, as it seems the players and manager aren’t gelling, and I won’t be surprised if we see a repeat of the Everton game, scores-wise. And it’s a home game as well. The lads will be looking to make a statement after losing two games in a row. But yeah, the CL game is more important at the moment, and I hope we do well. I also think Eduardo should have started the match. Also, it seems to have skipped our minds, but RVP actually opened his Arsenal account today, and it was an awesome goal. He could have gone down, but he stayed on his feet and scored!
September’s almost over,, so hopefully Nasri’ll be back in training soon!
Maybe the City and Utd defeats will act as a smokescreen and we end up going on a fantastic (winning) run in the league!

  • Debs

I do hope Theo plays in Belgium on Wednesday as well!

  • Pete

We lost more games in the beginning of last season and still finished comfortably in the top 4, so I’m not writing us off just yet, and anyone has done so needs a reality check. I love what Leeroy writes at the end of his posts, “Win, Lose or Draw, Gooner til I Die”, and thats how I feel about our football club. A defeat like todays shouldn’t phase us as there’s nothing that can be done about it now, we just got to carry on.

Whats different about this season is that more teams outside the top 4 have shown a lot of imporvement, whilst you could say the top 4 teams themselves aren’t as strong as they once were, so the gulf between the two is smaller than previous seasons. Last year Aston Villa was the team favoured to break into the top 4, this year its City and Spurs who are showing promising signs. But what people forget is that its a long season with teams competing in more than one competition, complicated further by an African Nations Cup competition slap bang in the middle of the season. All our rivals still have to play each other too and will all drop points along the way at various stages, so lost points and disappointing results will catch up with everyone. Whats also important to remember is that out of our first 4 games so far this season, 3 have been away games, with two difficult games in a row in Manchester.

I can accept todays defeat much more than I can the United one, as City played far more convincingly than their United counterparts. Even though today he went even further down in my estimation than before, Adebayor showed that he is a good player. There were some very good moments of play involving him, like when he set up Write-Phillips shot on goal. But talent doesnt equal class I’d afraid, and his behavior towards his former team mate RvP as well as the Arsenal fans exemplified exactly why he was sold and just why it was the right decision from Wenger to do so. There’s no excuse whatsoever for that kind of thing, and he showed a huge lack of professionalism and respect toward fellow professionals and supporters that deserves some sort of punishment from the FA.

Our performance is a bit difficult to sum up because the game ebbed and flowed quite a bit, where both sides had decent spells. Rosicky for me was the difference in the second half, and I’m bloody pleased to see him back playing again. He showed just what we’ve missed these last 18 months and his goal was probably my favorite thing about this game from an Arsenal point of view. Again we had chances, involving Gallas and Vermaelen, and RvP hit the post and narrowly missed a few. But scoring two past a top goal keeper in Shay Given and decent defenders like Toure and Lescott is no mean feat.

With the fixtures becoming a bit kinder to us and players returning from injury, maximum points from games should be round the corner for us.

Chin up guys, today was disappointing but there’s plenty of games to be won yet. Peace! :D

  • Debs

    Yeah,, very spot on Pete!
And how awesome was Rosicky?! What an awesome summer signing! :)

  • Jimmy

We lacked leadership in the midfield, someone who can stand up and be counted, dont know how we concede 4? They might have Tevez and Robibho injured but had Arshavin, Nasri and Walcott aswell. Overall i think because Fabregas had an off game, Denilson and Diaby were shit, and we lost the midfield battle. I think if Nasri was playing next to Fabregas, would have been completely different story.

  • Pete

Innit lol. What I liked was how within 2 mins of coming on, he had a shot on goal that rebounded and ended up winning a corner. The guy showed just how clever a player he is. Seriously, you’d expect him to be a bit rusty but he was the exact opposite. Plus I always liked his partnership with Cesc, so I’m hoping they’ll get to play more games together.

Just think, in a few weeks time we’ll be able to play Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri, Walcott and Cesc together in our attacking midfield. Thats very promising :)

  • Debs

Yeah, I think Cesc and Rosicky together again will be awesome! I remember when the season was about to start, and I think it was on on member’s day or something, during the fans and players Q&A, and an Arsenal fan asked Cesc, who was sitting next to Rosicky, a question.
He was like if we had the money to buy any player in the world, without worrying about our financial situation, who would you want the club to buy, just to partner you in midfield especially, I was expecting him to go for some glamour name or something, but he was like ‘The person is sitting next to me’. I thought that was a class answer, cos he didn’t even take a minute to think about the answer! He couldn’t have given a better answer, and I’m sure it made Rosicky feel that the team actually miss him and want him back asap. I can’t wait for them to start a match together, and who knows, maybe that’ll happen on Wednesday! What an awesome combo!

  • Debs

Oh, and also, a steward got injured after the Adebayor goal celebration, this from the BBC sports website:

It later emerged that a match steward needed hospital treatment after being hit by a flying object in the wake of Adebayor’s goal celebration.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “The steward received a head injury from a flying object which appeared to have been thrown from the direction of the away end.

“We were told the steward was unconscious for a few seconds before being taken to hospital and later discharged.”

    And the fall out continues!

Debs and Pet great write ups – just as amazing and pleasing.

  • Debs

Ah, the irony of it all! The under 18s also lost 4-2 today, against Leicester. At least it wasn’t against City! Lol

  • Fabrez

Hmm…well it was wrong of fans to throw things on to the pitch but if Adebayor goes in and gets Arsenal fans incensed, what else would he expect? What he did was wrong and classless. Not saying the reaction was right tho but the anger is to be expected…i really didn’t think fans were gonna throw stuff on to the pitch. I know some players don’t celebrate agaisnt their former clubs…even a guy like Anelka…who i’m not particularly fond of to be honest. That is a whole other drama rite there! And 4-2 for the Under 18s huh? Not the club’s best day i guess!

  • Fabrez

Guys…my apologies for going on about Adebayor’s stomp…but if u youtube it, it is SOOOO OBVIOUS…it’s really bothering me!

    youtube.com/watch?v=dhI75DG4wKQ

  • Fabrez

And it was 1-1 at that point… We would have won if he got the red card he deserved!

  • Fabrez

    Adebayor said…

“I was trying to kick the ball,” Adebayor told Sky Sports. “I see him tackling and I don’t have time to take my feet back because I’m trying to kick the ball.

“My feet touch his head. I feel sorry for him and even straight away, and at the end of the game, I said sorry.”

Guys, excuse while I go fry an egg on my head…

  • Debs

Haha Fabrez! Calm your head down mate :P

  • Fabrez

I’m tryin Debs! But I guess the affection I have for this Club won’t let me. I take it maybe too personally when Arsenal or players of Arsenal are disrespected in this manner. And with it being from sum1 who was one of us leaves a bitter taste in my mouth! But I’ll try 2 chill! *SIGH* :P

  • Debs

Nah, Ade definitely meant it! And from the youtube video, you can see that he didn’t go say a word of apology to RVP. Amazing! Glad RVP put out that statement.
MOTD is so ridiculous! I remember the last time, they were praising us for our work-rate off the ball, and next thing today, they’re on about how crap we are off the ball! Make up your minds dudes!
I know, Fabrez! Perfectly understandable, dude! After seeing it originally, it definitely got very much under my skin for a while. Not so much the foul, but the fact that it was CLEARLY intentional. I think maybe that shows that it wasn’t only Bendtner that Ade didn’t get on with in the dressing room? Maybe they both have previous, but that was totally unacceptable. Granted, RVP’s challenge was rash, but at least it didn’t seem as if he set out to do it intentionally. The dude’s just alienating himself more to the club, and that doesn’t do anyone any favours/

  • Debs

And yeah, do try to chill! :D

  • Fabrez

Well I didn’t even bother with MOTD! lol And I’m glad Adebayor is gone bcuz that attitude is not welcomed at our Club. Maybe he didn’t get on with a few more Gunners than we think… And the return to the Emirates, that guy is gonna get it…

  • Debs

Awesome MOTD outtro (is that the right word?!) by Gary Linekar:

‘When Adebayor woke up on Saturday morning, it was probably his aim to do something to upset Arsenal. He certainly did!’

  • Berth

Debs and Fabrez – seems you both have the drama for the day in this forum.

@ Debs – what MOTD said has a bit of truth in it and I tell you what; I said sometime before, for the 4-3-3 to be a success we need a mobile second DMF/AMF – just like ALonso, Aquilani or Carrick – we have that in Denilson, but unfortunately his young and irreplaceble. People moan about him not being as skillfil as Nasri or he can’t score, but I tell you; he is the real invisible wall, he is the lad that makes that formation work well, he tracks back more than any player, works hard for the team and guess what he is not appreciated. Wenger took him off for a reason I don’t understand, left Diaby in midfield for what sake, for what purpose look closely to the goals against us after Wenger substituted Denilson. Am not saying he is the reason we lost, but he could be the reason why we did not win or get a draw; De Jong was good though…

  • Gooner Get Ya

We lost 3-0 to city last season and still finish above them… Lets not panic just yet. Come on you gooners

  • Berth

You guys sound so average in this forum lately. Honestly, I did think initially and I still think we can be contenders it will be foolish and criminal in our own part to surrender especially now Chelsea is banned and will loose players to the ACN,Liverpool’s sell of Alonso and of cos Ronaldo and Tevez. We have the team but Wenger apparently still struggles with balance.Left alone, Diaby and Bentdner had no business starting yesterday’s match together; they killed the flanks for made Denilson less relevant they also made life miserable for the full backs Clichy and Sagna; Fab did not help either, to cap it all, Denilson the only player that tracks back with purpose was replaced.

The point am making being that Wenger always panics and get decision wrong when it comes to big matches( he losses Arshavin, his first option is to go for Diaby and Bendtner in the flanks – That is crazy). Like I said and I will always say, Denilson is key to our success, he develops fast we have a shot, he doesn’t then we should think of buying someone similar.

    Diaby should have no place in the team and Bendtner’s wing play is questionable and very irrelevant for our progress as a team and we also lack so much maturity;

  • jien

ya agree with u Berth.. it seems Diaby is the kind of person who let his frustration affects his performance when things does not go right for us. Not those keep-focus-and-work-hard-whatever-it-is type of player.. and Bendtner looks too slow and too predictable, especially in crucial moments in front of goal..just don’t have that scoring instict a top striker should have. i think he can only be a back up striker for us, don’t expect him to develop into a ‘ian wright’ or ‘henry’….

maybe i allowed my emotions to influence my opinion on them after that defeat. but i am still optimistic, we are not going to use diaby and bendtner up front for the entire season. just mention the names of arshavin, rosicky, walcott, nasri, eduardo and perhaps wilshere, i still believe we are capable of beating any sides on our day.

  • Yemi

Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks, Rocks, sucks

Why are we like this? two matches ago the words on our mouths were arsenal/arsene rocks, two defeats and suddenly they suck?
    Please…..
I am always in agreement with what leeroy says “win, lose, draw”

Basically i think we lost the match immediately song got that yellow card and had to be taken off to avoid being red carded. when verminator and gallas go upfront, who was covering after song went out ? dont forget ade is fast, bellamy is fast, wright philips is fast so they beat us hands down on the counter

  • VJ

guys we just have to wait till adebayor comes to the emirates and then lets deal with him

  • Berth

VJ its best we focus on other matches and talk less about this guy we so much allow the press run the show for us in this club; I know we lack maturity but again, this players have been in this club for far too long and deserve to offer us (fans) much more.

We can keep saying this “Win, lose or draw” thing but we know within ourselves that we deserve much more – we settle for average this days and I tell you folks if we don’t get off this negative and average thoughts we ain’t going anywhere; champions league might even elude us. Instead of win, lose or draw why not “win, win or win gooners till I die” – sounds more positive to me.

  • Debs

But Berth though, you can’t win all your matches, and no one ‘deserves’ to win. Deserving doesn’t earn you the three points, you actually have to play well AND score the goals, and the point of the ‘win, lose or draw’ is simply just that whatever happens in the games, we’ll support the team, and not simply only when we win. I guess it’s another way of saying ‘through thick and thin’.

  • Berth

Yeah Debs; I understand that too; its simple logic.

  • Berth

I got off the phone with a pal and he gave me all the reason why Arsenal cannot make it to the CL; He did mention too that the fans expectation of total revolution as we had in the early days of Wenger won’t happen again. He said sometime about Wenger trying to achieve what he achieved with Men (Viera, Berkgamp, Henry, Pires and co) with boys but that will not happen.

Am not trying to be critical of Wenger but am only questioning the motive of the club and the manager and what role the fans are expected to play in the club whether to mute and support the club or just follow Wenger’s ambition.

Stubbornness has always been good especially in business, but being foolishly stubborn questions once personality sometimes.

  • Leeroy.N

Hey All. I didn’t get to watch the match fully. I had to listen to the commentry for most of it. So I can’t gage a real opinion for myself on how or where we lost the game. It sounded like the “same old story” scenario. Like YEMI said, I am a Gooner.. Win, Lose or Draw. It seems old and boring but it’s how I am, but I do understand that we ALL expect and deserve more from every player who gets out on that pitch. It frustrates me to hear how dominant we can be, but yet so wasteful infront of goal. We seem to be relying on some players a litle too much. The absence of Arshavin, Nasri and other serious goal threats seem to leave us transparent. Teams know how much we THINK we need them and capitalise on it. It’s mostly mind games and/or lack of concentrations which will continue to be our downfall. Wenger (IMO) needs to start thinking about switching it all around. We have become to predictable. Managers do their homeowrk and can always find a little weakness and expose it easily. Whether it be going back to 4-4-2, giving a few youngsters a shot or even giving less creative freedom for some and more for others. I don’t know exactly, but these next few games wil be crucial to gain any kind of momentum. Its early days still, we have time to do what we do best.

Win, Lose or Draw.. Gooner Til I Die!!

  • http://gmail.com joel sequeira

I think we should have a full strength and only the expect stellar performances from our beloved team. With out mature and experienced men like Arshavin , Rosicky , Nasri , Gallas , Vermalin and i am hoping we buy another DM (who is a Logger head ) we are just a bunch of very special boys who go into a shell when roughed up.
If Arsen just gets these men of ours to remain fit and give them a better fitness aid (i know it sounds elemetnry) we will be world beaters … untill then lets not put our young guns ourselves into too much pressure and lets just enjoy watching these boys grow into men and these men into legends as the season goes one … until then Win Loose Draw Injury , Gunner Till Me Ansestory To Come !!

  • sam

No doubt, lose, win or draw… till I die.
But the danger of Man City reaching Top 4 can’t be overlooked. We must ensure that if Top 4 changes, it’s L’pool who drop.
Trust me, securing Top 4 won’t be easy this year.
