Transfer Deadline Day Update [Updated Hourly]

It’s been a very quiet transfer deadline day… I’ll be keeping an eye on what’s going on today in the hope that something may just materialize out of nowhere:

08:00 – Not much going on, not too much in the papers this morning. The only story related to Arsenal is the possible move of Philippe Senderos to Hull for £4m… if we’re not going to sign Hangeland or any other defender, shouldn’t we keep the Swiss International?

09:00 – Some news says we’re targetting Steven Taylor from Newcastle as a replacement for Philippe Senderos. I think it’s all paper talk.

10:00 – Interesting news that we’re still in last minute talks with two players, Chamakh and Subotic. Again, looks like speculation more than any other thing. Doubt there is real substance in the rumours.

11:00 – Nothing really moving yet. The Chamakh link seems to be just a rumour – news is that he may wait until January and sign for us on a free transfer. The Senderos to Hull thing looks like it is going ahead.

12:00 – Peter Hill Wood seen leaving the grounds (maybe off to do some transfer business? http://i25.tinypic.com/34ryelg.jpg (link courtesy of arseblog via twitter)

13:00 – Another rumour circulating the media waves is that we’re in talks with Real Madrid to sign Van Der Vaart. Another one I quite doubt – we’ve got enough attacking midfielders to build an army (if you include Vela, Walcott, Rosicky, Nasri, Cesc and Eboue).

13:20 – News hotting up on the Mirror blog that Arsene is working on two deals, one for Chamakh and one for Matiudi – we’ve heard these rumours all summer I know, but there seems to be some more news about this one today!

14:00 – Rumours that Arsene Wenger is in Madrid are surfacing as reports by a few blogs, but not SSN. Fulham have been in contact with us about taking Carlos Vela on loan, but this is due to be rejected by Arsene.

14:15 – More rumours linking Armand Traore with a loan move to Birmingham City – this is probably a rumour that may come to fruitition.

15:00 – No news is good news? No news is NO NEWS! There is nothing much to report in the last hour or so, really struggling to find anything in any site or newspaper with any real substance. Some people reporting Steven Taylor is at the Emirates. No real confirmation though and what would be the point?

16:00 – Nada, not a whisper. More interest in Eduardo’s ban to be honest.

16:52 – 8 minutes until the transfer window closes. The only signing of the whole summer was Thomas Vermaelen… whilst we saw the back of Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor. Ouch.

As things stand, there have been no confirmed transfers.

    Thanks 4 updates

  • Fo

Absolutely nothing going on – the only things that are going to happen are Senderos to Hull and Traore to Birmingham… Arsene is letting us all down by not signing anyone!

  • jeffvip

what I heard is Senderos + vela (loan) for Hangeland and maybe abit cash involved. Not quite sure it’s accuracy…

Paper talk seems to be the only thing we can hold onto. It’s looking more unlikely that we will sign some one every minute. We haven’t even been linked with anyone for a little while. I am a little dissapointed to be honest, but it wont be the end of the world if we don’t end up signing someone. I was hoping for and intelligent but “dirty” player. Someone to shake up a team and break down their play in Midfield. No one free, available or even willing comes to mind, now the prices are hiked up it would have made it even worse if there were a player like that who suited us. But no matter what happens..

Read on another blog that we’re looking to be debt-free in 2-3 seasons, partly thanks to the sales of Adebayor and Toure, so doubt we’ll sign anyone last minute. Bit of a dull deadline day in general to be honest.

    LOL Leeroy!

Frankly, I cannot think of which player need we need at the starting 11 for this moment. Our starting 11 seems very fine. Maybe Gallas for another tall defender. Btw, Gallas is on form now and it will be hard to be replace.

  • Leeroy.N

DEV – You know me.. have to laugh through these difficult times.

Yea I fidn it hard to accept when some people say Wenger is letting us down by not buy and/or bringing in a player. I would love to see one, two or even three more additions to the team, but realistically we only need cover. Our recent form and our playing potential, along with the talent we possess is capable of BIG things. I just hope we don’t become a slave to our injuries and that be the only thing that lets us down this season. The player look upto the challenge and are already answering questions.

I read from ‘Arsenal insider’ that Matuidi has just joined us. Anyone can confirm it?

  • devday

Jien, sorry to inform you but it’s not true. There have been rumours that we’ve tried to sign him, but he’s recently just signed a long term contract and it doesn’t look promising!

  • Bradley Singer

this is getting stupid, why don’t we sign someone ive been sitting at my desk since 8 30 this morning and nothing has excited me apart from bentley who got rejected a move.

  • Pete

Dev, any word on the Eduardo verdict mate?

  • Vazy

looking deadly silent on the transfer front… unless its all going to kick off in the last 30 mins!

  • devday

Pete – apparently UEFA are refusing to take our 19 page submission of appeal into consideration. I have no idea why they are being so hard on Arsenal and so lenient on Man United. As things stand, Eduardo will miss the first two games of the CL group stage.

  • JDD

can anyone confirm that wenegr is in madrid trying to sign rafael van der vaart????

  • kuka

UEFA just handed Eduardo a two-game ban

  • Vazy

eduardo 2 match ban just thru

  • Leeroy.N

A sad day. Does that mean Mcgeady will get banned too? …Thought not! BULL CRAP!!

  • Leeroy.N

JDD – Here’s hoping. It’s looking ever EVER more unlikey. I mean, just a good will gesture would raise moral among the of the down trodden fans. But.. I dont care. I have faith in our strongest 11 at anytime and whoever it consists of.

Win, Lose or Draw.. Gooner Til I Die!!

  • Pete

Hmmm, thats dissapointing. Hopefully UEFA wont just single us out and that they’ll start treating other teams as such, but I wont hold my breath.

Nothing can be done about it now I guess so the best thing to do is just take it on the chin and carry on. Suppose its better for something like this to happen now than later in the season.

  • jien

pathetic…hope it doesn’t affect our team morale and concentratio..hope that Eboue learn from this too.

  • devday

That’s a wrap guys – Thomas Vermaelen remains our only signing!

  • Nicky

I think the club has 3 days to appeal the decision about Eduardo.

If it stands it has opened a can of worms. Everyone can now protest any decision by the referee.

The charge that he ‘deceived’ the ref, doesn’t say much about their confidence in their officials.

  • John

No signings f’s sake, dont get me wrong i love arsenal all my life and hope we get something out of this season but judging by previous seasons we will proberly be challenging for 4th again and we can say goodbye to cesc.

  • Gooner Get Ya

I bet RVP is well pissed off after penning a new deal on the promise we were to match his ambition to win trophies….lets hope we do win something with our current players.

  • Dale

Well..that’s all folks..70 million made (40 for player sales, 30 from CL) and only 10m spent, good business, but bad tactics. No serious cover for Gallas or Verm, No real scorer except for Eduardo, who gets benched for Bendtner most games…the scary part is the injury history and current form of Walcott, Rosicky, Nasri, Fabregas..and potential injuries to Eduardo, RVP, Diaby to name a few. No cover for Song. And very little playing time for Wilshere, Merida and co. Mr. Wenger will ride on his luck again.

  • Leeroy.N

Well Senderos didn’t go. So he must be willing to put in a little bit of hard work. (unless he oes out on loan).
Faith again will be put into youngsters to cover from the middle upwards (apart from injured first teamers). It could be alot worse. I’m glad we kept Barazite, Merida, gibbs, Traore and didnt let Wilshere go on loan. They could be important along the way. Especially when resting big players and decent cover. I would have liked to see Simpson stay and fight for a spot. As much as everyone is sick about hearing the kids having to fill the void and they have to step up and show what they can do. But at the end of the day you can only play with what you have. I back them 110% I believe probably as much a Wenger in what they are capable of.
