Liverpool vs Arsenal Preview… (and a bit more Chelsea)…

After the shambles that was the FA cup on the weekend, we have the chance to recover tomorrow night as we take on Liverpool in the league. Chelsea and United fans will surely be routing for us as a win for us against Liverpool would all but end their title challenge.

Early team news sees Adebayor out with a hamstring injury and Van Persie out with a groin injury. Knowing Arsene, I'll predict his line up and then I'll tell you my preferred line up too.

Arsene's line up:

Fabianski

Sagna – Toure – Silvestre – Gibbs

Walcott – Denilson – Cesc – Diaby – Arshavin

Bendtner

But personally, I’d go like this:

Fabianski

Sagna – Toure – Silvestre – Gibbs

Walcott – Song – Cesc – Nasri

Arshavin – Eduardo

It would be good to have some attacking flair and finishing ability – my formation would still see us be able to act like a 5 man midfield if required, with Nasri tucking in and Arshavin on the left

Toure says the weekend’s game is all about learning and we’ve got Liverpool next so we can focus on that game straight away. He says the “youngsters” will learn from this and it will stand us in good stead for the future.

“We just have to put all this to the back now and focus on the next game,” he said. “Our target is now the League and Europe. The good thing is that we only have a couple of days to get this loss off our back. We will head to Liverpool on Tuesday and look to get the three points. This can be just the start for this team, because there are some really good players coming through. The season started really badly, but we have come back very well. We hope to keep going now and improve the way we are playing.

“You can only learn from these types of games, because they are so intense. When you make some mistakes, they can cost you, which is what happened against Chelsea. We will just have to try not to do that again.”

Van Persie was quite upset at the result on the weekend, but he’s right when he says that we need to look ahead to tomorrow’s game and get back into the groove:

“We have to look game by game, because if you look at the schedule from now until the end of the season, it makes you a bit dizzy because we have big games every three or four days We still have two targets now – that is the Champions League Final and to finish fourth, or even third in the league. ”We are disappointed, but we need to get our stuff together and fight for the other two titles. We have to play the game against Liverpool on Tuesday now, whether you are happy or if you are not happy.

“It is the Premier League and we need those points, but I am confident because we have strong characters. Every experience makes you stronger, a good one and definitely a bad one.”

I’ll be back with more team news tomorrow, let’s see what we’re made of…]]>

    < ![CDATA[Decent line up Dev.

I also think that the back 4 will remain the same, with the exception of Sagna perhaps coming in at RB. Something tells me Song and Arshavin will start though. I think there's a possibility of Theo being rested and maybe Nasri coming in for him on RW, but I'm hoping that Theo is ok to play as he's been great these last couple of games.

I'll have a crack at guessing the team.

    Fabianski

    Sagna Toure Silvestre Gibbs

    Walcott Cesc Song Arshavin Nasri

    Bendtner

Personally I wouldn't mind a 4-4-2 with Eduardo, but this is quite a big game and his lack of minutes on pitch might just keep him out of starting.

Hopefully we'll perform well tomorrow, good luck to the Arsenal.]]>

  • Berth

Dev your formation looks pretty much compact and solid. I guess the height up front is not an issue.

  • ny

< ![CDATA[Arshavin will defnitely start.I dont think Walcott will be rested Tuesday becos it is better to rest him on Sunday.
Diaby and Song both may play becos Liverpool usually plays football in air.Eduardo will come on as a sub and will start on Sunday.

    My prediction ....

    ----------Fabianski

    Eboue Toure Silvestre Gibbs

    Walcott Cesc Song Diaby Nasri

    --------------Bendtner]]>

  • zohaib

< ![CDATA[I hope we lose this game. I don't want ManUtd winning the title and I'll do anything to help Liverpool win it.
And so my team would be :

    Fabianski
    Eboue Toure Silvestre Gibbs
    Wilshere Ramsey Denilson Merida
    Bendtner Gunnersaurus]]>

  • zohaib

Obviously we’ll play with some more well known players but the idea will be the same. To lose. Yeehaww. Never been more excited to lose a game.

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[lol Zohaib. That's be hilarious! We might as well play the defenders in midfield and the midfielders up front, with stikers at the back. Gunnersaurus in goal will make it even better! lol

But on a more serious note though, I don't think a loss will help the team confidence, especially coming after a loss. I'd take a draw, but a loss... well, if we play like the U-21 squad or something then I can take a loss, but if we go with a strong enough team, I'd be upset if we lose, even though I don't want Man U to win the title. Someone else will have to do Liverpool the favour.]]>

  • zohaib

I’m sure if Wenger makes it clear to the players that we need to lose the match, it wouldn’t make any difference to the morale/confidence.

  • Debs

Personally I’ll be very disappointed if we ever went into a game with the intention of losing. We might as well not turn up really. We’ve got a chance to cut the gap to Liverpool to 6 points and maybe sneak into 3rd. Whoever wins the title doesn’t add or take anything away from the team/club, except maybe the fans, but if we do go into the match with the intention of losing, I think that’ll be a big shame.

  • Fabrez

< ![CDATA[Let's just do nobody favours by winning against both Liverpool and Man U... that sounds a lot better than losing against Liverpool...

I think we shud go with

    -----------------------Fabianski----------------------

    Eboue/ Toure Silvestre Gibbs
    Sagna (if fit)

    Walcott Cesc Song Diaby Arshavin

    -----------------------Bendtner-----------------------

    I'd like to see Edu but starting with a 4-5-1 i guess he'll only b used as a sub]]>

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[We could actually do with Gunnersaurus playing as a defender what with all the injuries there at the moment :P lol. He'd make a brilliant defending midfielder!!! lol

    Nice one Dev lol :D]]>

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[And Zohaib has my vote for next Arsenal manager lol :D

If you hire me as your assistant then we could argue on the touchline at every game mate hehe :P]]>

  • Pissed off

LOL; seems guys are having fun after a disappointing weekend. were is it coming from, Zohaib or Dev

  • Fabrez

Well i stayed away from the WOA yesterday cuz i was sooooooooooo disappointed…but gud 2 c every1 having a laugh indeed! :D

  • devday

Fabrez, I think you’re formation probably is the most likely – Arsene does like to play Diaby whenever possible – and Arhsavin will have to play having missed the weekend – something I still don’t understand!!

  • Fabrez

I guess Arsene didn’t start with Arshavin bcuz he thought Guus had too much knowledge of Arshavin? Honestly honestly speaking…i wasn’t too critical when i saw the team line up bcuz i thought we could beat them or at least go to extra time without Arshavin starting…and i guess Arshavin coming on when he did was a bit late for my taste… Was hoping around the 60 min mark… But i felt as if we have enuff firepower to do it. At the end of it, Arsene was almost justified…but our defensive frailties shone threw in the end :(

  • Fabrez

And about Diaby…when he’s good, he’s really good… Arsene seemingly looks past his incosistency which can so frustrating sumtimes!

  • Fabrez

Thinking about it….we should have scored at least another 1 and not conceded either of those goals… *sigh* Ah well…its all about Gunnersaurus at the moment with Zohaib being the next manager and Pete as his assistant! lol

  • Pete

Dev, Fabrez, Debs, heck everyone at WOA, perhaps Zohaib and I can sign you all as our new players at Arsenal FC? You up for playing in Champions League next season? lol :D

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[On a serious not though, I do feel Song will play tomorrow. Not too sure if Denilson or Diaby will make way though.

What does everyone make of the possibility of him playing in ccentral defence ahead of Silvestre? Do you feel thats an option?]]>

  • devday

< ![CDATA[I don't think Arsene will play Song next to Gibbs - Silvestre is experienced... although I can see Torres skinning him quite easily. Would be nice to see Song sit in front of the back four, with Nasri and Cesc just in front of him and Walcott and Arshavin on the wings... if we have to play 4-5-1...

But of course Diaby will get the nod - and don't get me wrong - I do agree Fabrez, when he's good, he's really good, but you just feel sometimes he's about to do something silly like lose the ball and the opposition go on to score from it...!]]>

  • Fabrez

< ![CDATA[Let's do it Pete! lol I do think Song would do a decent job as a CB...and AW always says he sees him ending up there....but as Dev says...he won't have him next to Gibbs cuz of experiece and we do need Song to help shield the back 4...he's been doing it so well recently...and he's got so much confidence in that position too...

As for Silvestre being skinned...i too can see it happening...Torres mite skin him then run back to skin him again...and again... Silvestre just appears too slow at times and i've seen him give away some careless free kicks! And i do know that feelin Dev... Diaby can be sluggish and careless when he's having an off day!]]>

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[Let's just pray Diaby has a really good day 2moro! I can actually see him scoring a really cracking goal 2moro!
As for Silvestre, anyone want to have a guess as to how many times Torres will skin him?! lol
Maybe Silestre will also have a vintage game! (although I can't actually see that, seeing as Liverpool will be hell bent on wining the match)
As for Song, he's played a few times in that position before last season (and also for Cameroon), so I guess I'll have to go and watch the match highlights of those games and see how well he did!
But as Dev said, he'll probably not play alongside Gibbs 2moro cos of the whole experience thing. But knowing Wenger, he might spring another one on us and do just that!]]>

  • Debs

And good idea Pete! As long as we don’t have to play on Wembley’s dodgy pitch! ;) lol

  • Fabrez

< ![CDATA[Would be nice if 2morrow is in fact 1 of Diaby's on days...we'll see... And Silvestre and vintage debs? Let's hope so for the sake of avoiding a Liverpool fan compliling a "Silvestre is skinned by Torres" video and putting it on YouTube lol
From what I remember of Song at CB last season, he was decent. Didn't make too many mistakes but u could see that he was getting used to being in the team and getting used to the position too. Can't remember any top top performances but he's a confidence player. If he remained playing CB since last season, i reckon he'd be well solid by now cuz he wud have grown into that position. But i'd pick him 2 b a DM anyday seeing that we lost out in that position with Flamini and Diarrhea leaving. Opps...that should have been Diarra!]]>

  • Debs

    < ![CDATA[Diarrhea you know! lol Fabrez! :)
As for vintage Silvestre, he'd have to like recreate his form from like a period in time b4 any of us were born! lol. Despite his obvious problems though, I do think he's capable of a few classic performances, but they will probably be few and far between. I just hope he can find that extra special something on the big ocassions when we really need him to perform. I guess 2moro may not be one of those such days, but please please Silvestre, please keep it together in the CL semis. He'll be playing against his former employers so I guess motivation would not be an issue.
But yeah, hopefully 2moro'll be a great game and I'm sure Fabianski will be looking to make amends although I do think all the stick he got in the media were a tad unfair. He did have a great game the match before. I guess it just goes to show how there are little or no margins for error. I'm confident he's strong enough to deal with it all though.]]>

  • Fabrez

< ![CDATA["period in time b4 any of us were born" LOL Ancient CBs are evil! :D I hope we have Djourou back by the 1st leg vs Man U...or will he b out then as well? Arsene really hasn't said anything about a time 4 him 2 b back...maybe he's learnt his lesson in terms of rarely getting player's injury duration correct lol And Maybe clcchy wud b back? I think he shud be...
As for Fabianski... I think he needs a bit of time 2 develop an understanding with our back 4 (a constantly changing back 4 at that!)...and he'll want to prove himself 2morro...he seems a strong lad...]]>

  • Fabrez

    *getting a player’s

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[That injury list... oh it does my head in all the time! And true, maybe if Wenger didn't say anything, everything will be a little bit better! lol. I wonder how long in reality Almunia's 2-week injury lay-off will be. I swear it's always been 2 weeks since the day he got injured! Hopefully we don't pick up any injuries 2moro...
Fabianski will be alright I'm sure. The back 4 injuries and all definitely don't help, but yeah, he's definitely not ready at the moment to be No 1 like he said, but in time, he'll definitely be show quite how good he is.]]>

< ![CDATA[somehow. i feel that this season has seem more upcoming players who can fill in the void. players like kieran gibbs and alex song.

They are playing really well and i foresee song in the first 11 soon. he's somewhat our new flamini?

    what do you guys think?]]>

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[There's definately been a noticable improvement in a few of the fringe players, with Songs develpoment being the closest to a first team player. Denilson have improved a lot too, though as you've said, Song has impressed me the most.

It's really encouraging to see Gibbs' qualities, because before I've been a little concerned about the lack of cover for our fullbacks. It's good to know there's someone good enough who can fill in for our starters.

In fact, when you think about it, quite a number of players have improved since the beginning of the season, even if there is still a little way to go before they're considered for starting 11. I never thought Bendtner would get as many goals as he has so far in one season, even if he has missed chances and made mistakes too. They're by no means the finished article, but it's good to see that the development of the lads.

Thats where I feel one or two of the other top 4 clubs are lacking a little. I don't think Liverpool or Chelsea have many young players coming though to replace some of the older players. Man United on the other hand have some very promising youngsters, so perhaps in a season or two the title battle may be between us and United, just like the good old days lol. But then again, we spend less on transfers, so it swings both ways I guess.]]>

  • unspoken aka khai

< ![CDATA[true.. oh. i forgot to mention, gibbs totally caught me off guard. initially thought he was going to be the "weak point/ exploited point". but HELL NO. he proved me wrong. clichy might have to start worrying about his role, not to mention the return of armand traore. our left back role seems to be safe.

Bendtner. damn that guy. his positioning is good. but his finishing needs improving. i do hope he improves more on his finishing.

though it's good to have some experience amongst the talents. esp at the commanding roles, like the CB. we need someone like a campbell-toure partnership where one is the tough one while the other is the speedy one. then drogba wont be so lucky when we play chelsea again. somehow, i feel that we're playing with 2 "toures" and no "campbells", which could be why our defence is lacking something. no offence but i think that gallas and toure are great, jusy my 2 cents worth.

somehow, our future ALWAYS look brighter than our present. but then again. sometimes it's always that case.

we are good, no doubt about our talent and our skills.
if we play our game, there's almost none who can match us. though, what is ideal is that, those jack-ass teams who likes to out-muscle us, we'll "outmuscle" them back and play "our game".]]>
