Match Preview: Newcastle United vs Arsenal

Newcastle United v Arsenal
Barclays Premier League
Saturday, March 21, 2009, 17:30

Newcastle are a team whom always seem to struggle, always seems to lose to Man United but always give us a hard time.

Walcott out, Eduardo In

We’ve got a decent group of players back from injury apart from Theo Walcott who picked up an injury training yesterday. The Walcott injury is the most worrying of them all. Some sources say he is out for the rest of the season, some say it’s two weeks – the truth is unkown! Eduardo is back in the squad and will most probably start on the bench.

Arsene revealed that he is worried about the new injury:

“Walcott got injured today in training. We have to test it, he has a scan on his knee today. We are surprised and worried. He was in very good form coming back and that is very bad news for us and for England. For the rest of the season might be too long, but he’s out of tomorrow’s squad and he could be out of the England squad. He locked his knee so it could be a cartilage problem. He did it walking back from training. He was fully normal during training but maybe it only came out when he stopped. We have to see how he responds today and I hope it’s not really serious.”

It was very good to have him back in the team, so quite a loss. We don’t have another league game until April 4th so, it gives him two weeks to recover. But I supposed we won’t know more until tomorrow or Monday.

On a better note, Almunia is back and ready to play so, no doubt, he’ll start in goal tomorrow. Having had some rest and before an International break, I’d expect Nasri and Van Persie both to start and being away, Bendtner should start as well.

I expect the following line up:

Almunia

Sagna – Gallas – Toure – Clichy

Nasri – Song – Denilson – Arshavin

Bendtner – Van Persie

With Fabianksi, Djourou, Gibbs, Diaby, Eboue, Eduardo and Vela on the bench.

More team news may follow, but if not then come on you Gooners!!!]]>

< ![CDATA[i still have no idea why sagna is not given any rest.Any way I am sure Eboue,Nasri and Bendtner will start as they were warming the bench last mactch.

    --------------- Almunia

    -------Sagna -- Gallas - Toure - Clichy

-------Eboue --Nasri - Song - Bendtner

    -------------Arshavin-- Van Persie

I do fancy this line up]]>

Think wenger will employ the team that wrecked blackburn with arshavin playing SS?

  • Debs

We’re missing Walcott, so he’ll not be able to do that, unspoken

< ![CDATA[Big shame about Theo. Am hoping the injury isn't a serious one and that he'll be back soon. Must win for the lads today, a proper chance to open up the gap between 4th spot Arsenal and 5th place Villa (feels so good to be able to say that lol) :)

Should be an entertaining game, but we'll need to be on top of our game in order to win. Desperately want Bendtner to score after last weeks performance! Good luck to the lads!]]>

  • CON-MAN

i think theo will be back, arsene said he was ‘probably’ out of the england squad-well obviously he will be but i think he’ll b back

< ![CDATA[lol con-man. But it's the 'when', that is the issue. Not too long, I hope.
    Any news on Theo, Dev?]]>

< ![CDATA[fulham winning 2-0, look set to see that out
imagine the s*** half of london beating chelsea?

and debs i think u guys put the good estimates on it, i think 5 weeks is about right for cartilege damage, mid april?

but its all speculation, im gna watch the game see if arsene says anything about it, that said you were spot on we always seem to struggle at newcastle and i read in the papers owens going to be dropped so they can 'pack the midfield' which doesnt sound good

    0-0? lol]]>

< ![CDATA[Wow! We''ve got to win today and stop this madness
(well, not madness as far as we are concerned). Fulham and Sp*rs both beating 2 of the top 4. But then though, they are both London teams, so maybe something's in the air! It just didn't blow in Chelsea's direction.
Come on you gunners! and yeah, Pete, I'd definitely love Bendtner to score a goal today!]]>
