No More Hull Hell at the Emirates…

It's a quick blog today, so I'll quickly touches on a few points that Arsene's made today:

“Of course there is a burning desire to put that [record] right,” he said.

This season, the FA Cup is a priority and Arsene explains why:

“But I believe in 2006 we went very far in the Champions League so it was important to sacrifice the FA Cup, and last year we were in the Premier League race until very late.

“You can see this season that Liverpool, for example, did not play over the weekend but did very well against Real Madrid and then Manchester United. But they had a breather of 10 days before those games because they did not play in the FA Cup. Sometimes the run in the FA Cup conflicts with other interests.”

And on the previous defeat, Arsene said:

“It was one of the low points of the season. But it is not the only one. When you are 4-2 up against Tottenham and they come back to 4-4, when you are 2-0 up at Villa but then they come back – they are low points too. Still it was a very disappointing day [against Hull] because if we won that game we would have gone top of the League. And I don’t want to take anything away from Geovanni’s goal – or Cousin’s header – they were absolutely fantastic. But we could have closed him down easily.”

So…….. time for revenge? Let’s do it, let’s win tonight at the Emirates and put the memories behind us!]]>

< ![CDATA[could be more Hull Hell as we are 1-0 down...Barmby shot deflected over Fabianski. We did however start playing some better football towards the end of the first half. Come on gooners!!! lets get an early goal in the second half and build from that.

Diaby is having a shocking time in midfield, he just holds the ball to long!!! man...he is so frustrating sometimes.

RVP needs to stop moaning and judt get his head onthe game as well]]>

  • Gooner Get Ya

OMG how have we not scored 53rd and 54th mins both from corners. Diaby free header missed and then cleared off the line and then sond inches wide from the rebound….aaaarrrggghh it torture

  • Gooner Get Ya

    RVP is playing RUBBISH!!!

  • debs

It’s looking like one of those bad days, right? Just hope the substitutions being made right now make the difference. Come on you Gunners!

Our luck's definitely turned for good. Woop!]]>

  • Gooner Get Ya

Thank god for that, that 5mins seemed to last forever. Victory to Arsenal…bring on Chelsea…we going to Wembley…which is wrong!!! should just be for the final..but I am not complaining.

< ![CDATA[Where did we pull that off from. It was looking like it was going to be another bad day. Another inconsistent performance. Thankfully we're through. We had more chances to score so it's not all luck. But we didn't play well for most of the match. Just passing it around, turning the possession stats in our favor doesn't do anybody any good. We need to do something with that much possession otherwise we look like incompetent buffoons who can't do anything with the ball even after having the majority of possession. Yes that's another way of looking at it !

Diaby was taking too long to pass it but there was also very little happening in front of him to pass to. He did retain possession and win it back at times well, though. VanPersie's positional sense had gone on vacation for about 60 minutes. Vela looked like he was working hard. Song at least looked lively. Arshavin didn't see the ball till after Hull got their goal. That was how poor we started. He was pretty good after that, compared to the others anyway. He was very unfortunate not to have a hat-trick. He only just missed a volley and there were a few other chances too. Walcott had an average game. He did well at times but his passing in the final third is horrible. He seems to loose all confidence all of a sudden when he realizes he needs to pass. Does he panic ?! Fabianski did well at claiming the high ball on a few occasions. The goal they got was all luck. But we should be more composed when we're defending. It's too easy for teams to stifle us. We can't be that giving. Djourou was caught out a few times. Gibbs did well. Specially that last run into the box towards the end when he received the Arshavin pass. That was a great run which resulted in a clever pass from the magician. Sagna was absolutely fantastic once again. Running up and down the right wing. He is an absolute beast ! And I mean that in the best possible way. Gallas was okay at the back.

Boy that Manutd kid Manucho is pretty damn strong and quick !]]>

  • zohaib

Why is it that we didn’t get him instead of Adebayor !?

  • AJ

That was a poor game to be honest and I have been left pretty annoyed at the team even though we won. Also I have just read Phil Brown is accussing Fabregas of spitting at his assistant after the match, I doubt he would do that and to be honest, I never liked Brown and I think he’s a bit of a jumped up prick.

  • Pissed off

Don’t conclude A J. He could be right in a way. you never know, most times I do question the players discipline and how Wenger handles them, hope your not forgetting Gallas and Toure. It still bits my understanding why Wenger cant handle situations.may be too many kids to handle.

  • Debs

he said Fabregas spat at his assistant manager’s feet. He sounded really pissed off (lol), seeing as they’d just lost due to a possibly offside goal. He couldn’t even proper answer the questions asked, and as he was really angry at the time of speaking, I’ll not give too much credence to it. And really, I’d rather hear what Brian Horton, the assistant manager, has to say about it first. Anyways, Wenger’ll be speaking about it in a few minutes so I’ll see what he too has to say.

  • Debs

But really though, why would Fabregas do it, seeing as we’d just won? Anyways, as pissed off said, you never know, but without hearing anything concrete so far, you can bet I’m in Fabregas’ corner.

  • Debs

I think it’s just sour grapes at the moment though, I just hope I don’t have to eat my words later…

  • Fabrez

Hm…we got the result in the end…not all games will be pretty. Can’t expect perfection every single time. I’m just happy we won after all is said and done. About Cesc & the spitting…it isn’t the 1st time he’s been accused of it…he was made out to appear as if he spat at Ballack some years aback…so i dunno… I’d b very disappointed in him if he did do it because my name is Cesc inspired after all! But i support him until i know whether he actually did it. Last thing we need is a 3-5 match ban on Cesc from the FA!

  • Debs

Wenger as usual didn’t see anything! lol. Well, if the FA did give Fabregas a 3-5match ban, it seems like he’d have missed those games anyways through injury! Except ofcourse, they suspend it until he’s fully fit or something. But anyways, it’s just a bit annoying that this spitting thing will distract from the fact that we won and are into the semis since 2005, even though it wasn’t a vintage performance. But a win’s a win and I’m happy we’re there! Bring on Chelsea!

  • debs

    Soz for the duplicate comment!

  • Fabrez

lol…AW and those dark shades huh? :P I heard he didn’t even shake Phil Brown’s hand! Emotions ran really high 2nite. Where did u hear AW talk? SSN?

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[yeah, SSN. And no, he didn't shake Phil Brown's hand. I'm not too bothered about that cos Wenger seems to do so every once in a while. And anyways, Brown was off on one anyways, and maybe he feared for his safety! lol

And this is on the Arsenal website from Fabregas:

“I categorically deny that I spat at anybody after the match. I have never done this in my whole career on the pitch, so why would I do it when I am not even playing?

“I can understand the frustration of losing a game to a dubious goal, that has happened to me many times in my career as well. But this is not the fault of me or any of the Arsenal players.” ]]>

  • debs

    That’ll do for me!

  • Debs

Fabregas called it a ‘dubious’ goal! lol. No mincing of words then! Can’t wait to see the highlights!

  • Fabrez

Yeah…Wenger has done it so many times over the course of his time at Arsenal…so agreed…normalish occurence & nothing to worry about. Well its gud 2 know that Cesc has said what he said. The only thing that could call him a liar is CCTV…i doubt it will go that far but it all depends on Hull & how much they push it. If they complain, guess we’ll see. But i’ll go with Cesc’s statement tho…

  • Fabrez

And on another note, great to hear Rosicky’s set-back is his groin and not his hamstring tendon…that would have been a nightmare!

  • Debs

Although the picture on bbc sport does make him look a bit guilty though! I think it’s the leather jacket! lol. But if Fabregas says he didn’t do it (which he’s said anyways), then he didn’t! To Arsenal fans anyways.

  • Debs

I bet Rosicky’s frustrated to bits! I hope he eventually makes it back though. It’d be a massive loss if he didn’t…

  • Debs

    *doesn’t

  • Fabrez

lol @ the leather jacket! He looks like a bad boy in that pic! I’m sure the camera man is proud of himself if he’s a Hull supporter lol

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[lol. I'm sure he'd have been wishing Brian Horton was in the picture. That'd have made it more interesting!

Funny how the match's a reverse of what happened last time. Hull came from a goal down to win, and all 3 goals were from Hull players! And technically that's the same here, seeing as Barnby's strike took a (wicked) deflection off Djourou!]]>

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[Man, that was such a heart-stopping game! Not as tense as the Roma game last week mind, but it still had my chest thumping. We're going to Wembley :D

Hull didn't turn up to play at all. Everything from their 4-5-1 formation to the time wasting (5 mins extra time!!!) seemed to suggest that. 2/3 of the game saw the Hull players in their half of the pitch sitting back, or slowly deciding who'll take a free kick. Despite them going ahead, I really wasn't impressed with their choice of tactics at all.

In all honesty, we didn't have the best performance either. The mistake from Sagna and Djourou that gave away the unnecessary early goal was really disheartening to watch. But what did impress me was how we fought for the win. We've done that a few times, making sure we just get the result, and i'm sure after a while the perfomances will become more consistant. Bendner and Nasri coming on made all the difference for us. They lined up well and helped create more chances. Was gutted Bendters goal was disallowed when Arshavin was ruled off-side.

It's been said before, but Mike Reilly, absolutely aweful ref :(

Overall I'm relieved about the win. Wembley Stadium will be a great experience for the lads, and hopefully they'll get a result in the next round. Everyone should be fit and ready to go by then, so fingers crossed! Glad we only have the Premier League to worry about for a few weeks lol.]]>

  • Debs

lol. Brian Horton happens to be in the picture! lol

  • Fabrez

Yeah he is…tum tum tummmmmm lol Fingers crossed this will blow over soon…but it sounds as if Hull are surely making a complaint to the FA

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[But the incident was supposed to have taken place in the tunnel, so the photographer'll be gutted he didn't get one of both of them in the tunnel! lol
And yeah, they may make a complaint to the FA. They're waiting for the ref's report. But as Fabregas as denied it, I wonder where they'll get their proof from so I'm not too too bothered. But they just need to move on though, and get on with life. The FA cup is not the end of the world, and it's not like they'd have beaten Chelsea, or Man U or whatever. They better focus on the league cos they aren't safe yet. I really liked Hull when they were pushing for promotion and eventually got it, but yesterday's just changed my mind completely. Especially with Brown, not satisfied with accusing Cesc of spitting, then moaning that Wenger got his goallie booked and labelling him an absolute disgrace. I guess we all know who the absolute disgrace is here, with his dodgy time-wasting tactics! I know the ref did get a few decisions wrong, but that's football! Moan like a tramp in your bedroom not on tv and just get on with it.]]>

  • Debs

Soz for the rant, just still pissed off about the whole thing.

  • Debs

On a different note, apparently Mourinho wants Abou Diaby!

  • Yemi

If that second goal came off myhill’s hand before getting to Galla, would it have been offside ?

  • Yemi

< ![CDATA[Hear What Phil says. I feel sorry for him !

"We have been beaten by a linesman's decision and a referee's decision for Gallas' goal"

    Hull manager Phil Brown]]>

  • Fabrez

< ![CDATA[I actually liked Phil Brown a bit but lost all respect for him now. He's behaving like a little girl. He needs to move on for real. I don't totally understand what happened with the last goal but Wenger says something about it touching the keeper and not being offside. I have to see it for myself.

Mourinho doesn't even know if he's staying in the Serie A come the summer so he should just leave Diaby alone! I'm sick and tired of teams trying to handicap our progress as a club...our transition will just be even more prolonged if we lose players again! This is part of the reason we catch our tail to be as close as we could & should be to Utd season after season. Stability please!!]]>

  • Debs

The highlights are on ATVO now, but I can’t really figure out if the goal was offside or not. I think if the last touch, before Gallas’ header, came off a Hull player, it’s not offside, or something along those lines. But I don’t know whether that rule applies to the ‘keeper also. either ways, the scorebord says 2-1 to Arsenal, that’ll do!

  • Debs

Gosh, Phil Brown is still mouthing off this morning! Grow up mate and get a life!!!!

  • Fabrez

Cool…i’ll go check it out now. And for the record, i’ve not seen reason to say that Samir is getting fat! I know Dev and someone else said they thought so but i don’t see it.

  • Fabrez

Wow…lookin at the pics from the match. Gallas doesn’t look particularly pretty when he celebrates…and Arshavin looks like Ade’s son! The height difference is insane! But when Gallas celebrates, the team comes and celebrates with him. There is even 1 with RvP and Gallas…after those rumours of a bust up between those 2 when Gallas used 2 rant 2 the public, seems like the spirit among the boys is a good one!

  • debs

I did love the Arshavin-Ade picture. I think it’s lovely! lol

  • Fabrez

lol! I did look at the highlights and i conclude it’s not offside. Djourou heads the ball on to Myhill’s fist so it comes of a Hull player, then to Gallas. Legal goal i think! Horton plans to speak to the League Managers’ Association according to the BBC…whatever!

  • Steve

< ![CDATA[LMA is not the FA. They can't suspend him, so I couldn't care less.

Maybe they will all agree Fabregas is a bad person and not to sign him.

Is Pep Guardiola part of the LMA,?Unfortunately I think not.]]>

  • Fabrez

LOL! I’d love it if he was! Imagine Pep…president of the LMA…lol Would be ace! Wishful thinking…ah well! Cesc was never going to Hull and not any other Prem team so Horton can talk his brains out…we don’t care! :D

  • debs

I’m sort of happy that it’s Fabregas, not anyone else who’s involved in this whole stuff, cos for one, he’s not playing at the moment, so it’s not going to affect his game or whatever. And also, he’s well-respected, I think, so generally, people’ll not really doubt him. I can just imagine if it was Gallas! The media would have gone absolutely ga-ga and the whole thing would have escalated to epic proportions! I just hope this stupid ‘storm’ blows over quickly- some of us like to move on!

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[Oh my word, Phil is such a prat! He's moaning that Fabregas shouldn't have been on the pitch, and that he shouldn't be dressed the way he was. What?! He's still bitter! Have a listen here. I think this was the day after, even!

  • Pete

< ![CDATA[Yeah, its a shame that all the "spitting-gate" headlines has taken some of the the spotlight away from our win. Personally speaking, I thought the goal was legitimate when I first saw it, and my estimations were confirmed after I saw the replay. Even my QPR suppoering mate said the same. Myhill was the last player to make contact with the ball before it went to good old Billy Gallas, therefore his positioning doesn't count as an unfair advantage. If Djourou headed the ball behind the keeper into Gallas' path, then I can understand Hull's feelings, but Phil Brown, a manager who I've quite liked this season, has been a sore looser I'm afraid.

So is anyone getting tickets to Wembley? :D]]>

  • Berth

folks were can I get ticket for the semi final game.

< ![CDATA[The irony of it all is, legitimate goal or not, Hull only beat Sheffield United in their 5th round replay by scoring a goal that never was. The ball never crossed the line, yet the lino flagged and the ref gave a goal. So Hull have absolutely no recours for dubious goals - they shouldn't have even been at the Emirates last night.

Also - I found out about the Uefa cup thing - Uefa cup winner does not qualify for Champions League. So even if Man City win it, they'll only qualify for it again next season (unless they got 4th spot in the league etc). If Uefa cup did give you automatic qualification to Champs League, clubs like Spurs and Villa would probably take it seriously instead of fielding mickey mouse teams.

Btw, Martin O'Neil, how is concentrating on the league working out for you?]]>

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[Thanks Kieran for the info about the UEFA cup thingy. It makes sense actually. Will make me breathe easier!
As for Martin O'Neill, his 'concentrating on the league' is definitely working out fine for US! lol]]>

debs, I like the arshavin vs adebayor picture too. I just publish that picture in my facebook now…. haha

  • Debs

lol i don’t know whether the picture makes it obvious how small Arshavin is, or how tall Ade is. It just makes me smile! :)

  • Debs

< ![CDATA[Interesting picture! I thought according to Brown, Wenger didn't shake his hand after the defeat earlier in the season at Emirates (the Arsenal steward in the picture makes it clear it's at the Emirates). If he's lying about that, it's not hard to believe that he could be lying/confused about whatever happened with Cesc.

    < ![CDATA[Thanks Debs !

It sounds like one of the Hull loony lot has said Cesc spat at Horton on the pitch. Brown said it was in the tunnel. Now it's becoming clear what a disgraceful fabrication it is. All Cesc seemed to do was point to Horton that they should go back home now, after loosing. And if I was Cesc I probably would've done something slightly worse, specially after what Horton was doing on the touchline. Giving Wenger nasty glances for no reason at all. Sc*m.
Like Kieran said, they shouldn't even be there due to the goal that never was.]]>

  • zohaib

If I remember correctly Brown even clapped and applauded his player for putting in a nasty challenge on Walcott at one point in the game. That’s not a surprise, since apparently, Brown has learnt his trade from Fat Sam.

yeah, it’s funny. I’ve copied jeffvip and made it my profile picture on facebook! ;)

< ![CDATA[Bischoff has revealed that he chose not to play against Hull City in the FA Cup quarter-final win on Tuesday after deciding to train with the Portuguese national side.

He told Aujourd'hui Sport: "Arsene Wenger wanted to play me on Tuesday night against Hull City. But I absolutely wanted to train with the national team. It is important to me.

"The training period went very smoothly and (head coach) Carlos Queiroz is very nice. He suggested I will play with the B national team on 1st April against Romania, or may be with the first team."

On his Arsenal future, Bischoff added: "I will reach the end of my contract with Arsenal, which remains my priority. However, I am free to do what I want.

"I know FC Porto and Sporting are following me. I have a preference for Sporting. It is a very prestigious club that plays a beautiful Football."]]>

  • Debs

For some reason, the word ‘ungrateful’ comes to mind. I could be wrong though!

  • jeffvip

After reading so many funny comment bout Ade n Arsha, here come the bad news… however I dont think he really deserve to be in first team… look at our centre mid and winger. I doubt he will got the chance to play… And we still got Merida and the gang coming up…

  • Fabrez

I wouldn’t read too much into what Bischoff says. If he leaves, he wouldn’t b a be a big loss in my opinion…but he has said before that he was very greatful to AW for bringing him with that massive grey cloud over his career. He hasn’t been bad at reserves level so let’s see what he has to offer in the future. But for now, Theo is our man down the right…and once he isn’t going anywhere, i’m good

  • Debs

apparently Barcelona said they’d want to avoid us in the draw. That’s good to hear!

  • Debs

and yeah, it’s all about Walcott for now! lol

  • Fabrez

Barca wants to avoid us? I’m pleased 2 hear myself! Trust me…once we get it together, we will be tough nut to crack in Europe ;)

  • Debs

Yeah. Apparently Pep Guardiola said so and cos we play the same style of football. Good to know that despite our dodgy season, we still put some sort of fear into opponents’ minds, even the likes of Barca!

  • zohaib

Now now let’s not jump to silly conclusions. He was having a terrible time in front of goal against Blackburn. Missing every chance he got. He was obviously too frustrated too suddenly become happy and start celebrating. He was annoyed with himself.

  • zohaib

    too frustrated to*

  • Fabrez

Not a matter of jumping to silly conclusions at all. All i said was he looked emotionless when Arshavin scored…obviously Nik had a bad day in front of goal…not worried about it because there is no silly conlusion to come to!
