Also, I doubt the russians would have agreed to any such deal, cos it’s not so much as if they’re willing to sell to us in particular, they’re looking for the highest bid, and that’s the only way they could try and tempt people. Besides, it’s hardly worked to our disadvantage, really- we still know what we’ve always known- Wenger’ll not spend over the odds for any player, even Arshavin.

I don’t think they would have played by the rules and been silent regardless of Arsenal asking for that. I think Arsene & co. just didn’t bother 2 ask for the privacy granted it was definitely worth doing bcuz the media being in on it is the worst thing…quite the pain in the tail. The sooner this deal is done, the better bcuz this publicity is surely not helping us get the player at all…rather making it a lot tougher.

Are Arsenal so stupid that they didn’t prepare for that ? Surely there should’ve been some agreement made before they started negotiating that it wouldn’t be made public. Is it Gazidis who doesn’t really know his job ? How did Wenger not prepare for this, when he knows he’s going to be grilled by the media. And he has only one thing to say when dealing with the press – ‘there is no news’. He doesn’t like making anything public, so how could he not have prepared for Zenit making the details of the negotiations public.
