It's a relatively sunny day today. The news of short and long term injuries to some of the Chelsea and Man United squad, coupled with the dropped point by Liverpool in the last two games and joined by the potential signing of Andrei Arshavin, makes for a happy day.
I like happy days.
So, I had this dream yesterday about all our players being fit (yes, I know, far fetched hey?) and the sudden strength im depth that we would have. There was so many good players, that we didn't know what to do. We had no idea who would start and always knew we had players to change the game. We also had our loan players in the squad too. It was exciting stuff - and abruptly interrupted by an early morning doorbell.
So, this was our line up:
Almunia
Sagna – Toure – Gallas – Clichy
Walcott – Cesc – Denilson – Rosicky
Van Persie – Eduardo
And on the bench was…
Fabianski, Djourou, Song, Nasri, Bendtner, Adebayor, Vela.
And in the first team squad…
Mannone, Senderos, Eboue, Armand Traore, Diaby, Ramsey, Wilshere and Simpson
Check that squad / team out – surely unstoppable? In the comments yesterday, Zohaib commented on Man United and said “I think it’s fair to say that they’re lightyears ahead of us.”. I definitely disagree. Arsene has been interested in adding Arshavin to the mix, which would only increase our strength. He’s also been linked with a defensive midfielder, and a real replacement for Flamini / Gilberto / Diarra.
So, light years, hell no! More like 5 minutes ahead, or 9 points… or…
Okay, so let’s take a look at the Arshavin deal and more noises are coming out of Zenit today about the deal. Apparently we have offered £12m to Zenit and rumours are that we are unlikely to budge. Zenit’s general director Maxim Mitrofanov was in full flow recently and said:
“The situation has not changed since Friday, which means Arsenal would like to pay only £12m, not one cent more. And we, at Zenit, are ready to discuss with them about maybe a better offer from our side.
“We are ready to make a step forward to them, but they should do the same. However, I have told the people from Arsenal we are ready to discuss a lot of things to make the situation easier for them. They have a deadline, as I understand, until 26th January, because after that, they should have some time to get another player and I respect this position.”
Dennis Latcher, Arshavin’s agent, commented on using the Webster clause if Zenit refuse to let him go:
“Unfortunately in this matter there is no movement. The sticking point is, of course, money and rather the totally unacceptable amount of Zenit’s demands for Andrei. The position of the club remains unchanged and that is the reality that we have faced for a long time. If the situation remains unchanged we will use Article 17 of the Fifa rules and buy out the contract of Andrei at the club, which could happen as early as November this year.
All I’ve got to say about that is that whatever is done to a previous club, will be done to you at one point. If we were to sign Arshavin, aged 27/28, he would be able to buy his contract out in two years too. Karma, we’ve all got to remember what goes around comes around…
So, exciting times when our injured players get back and happy days if we sign someone…
