Kolo is my front-runner for long-term Arsenal captain…he has served long enuff…enuff expreience and i think he’s the right man for the job. Almunia is getting stiff competition from Lukasz Fabianski so i’d say no to him.

AM thinking of whom the cap will fit! Its a tough call. No one is up to the standard I expect, unless Kolo or Aluminia, or will Wenger consider Silvestre?lol.

< ![CDATA[After the week this team’s had we all need some good news and Eduardo being 1 week away from full training is about as good a news as I can imagine. Add in that Theo is optimistic about his recovery and saying that he might be back in 2 months rather than the 3-5 months others have put him out for and we might be able to blow away the demons that threaten to tear this team apart.

2 years ago now, I was chatting with a Man U supporter who was parroting the line about how Arsenal made a ton of chances but never took them. It was the type of thing that you read incessantly in the press and I had a ton of facts to back up my position; that Arsenal scored plenty of goals, the problem was in the defense. Then reality beat my numbers all to hell: I had just returned from England and as usual Arsenal go on a streak of losing — 1-1 to PSV, 1-0 to Everton, 4-1 to Liverpool, 1-0 to West Ham and the season was over, kicked out of all competitions. I had to admit that he was right. Arsenal needed a goal poacher someone who could put the ball in the net when the keeper spilled it, a “fox in the box,” a Robert Pires if you will.

Then as if to just pile on the misery, Thierry Henry left and the world said “Arsenal are dead,” hell, even I was worried! Where was Arsenal going to get goals?

How about a blinky Brazilian who plays for Croatia and keeps goals in his pocket, would that do?

When Wenger signed Eduardo the whole world immediately looked him up on youtube and wikipedia. The thing that stood out, really, wasn’t his goals, they aren’t typically magical, but the fact that his goal scoring record for club and country was simply amazing. 73 goals in 111 appearances is insane, even if you are playing against some of the worst players in the world, which he wasn’t. Add in that he scored 13 goals in 22 appearances for Croatia and scored them against some of the world’s best competition (England, etc) and you might be able to see what Arsene Wenger saw.

Before Martin Taylor broke Eduardo’s leg, he had notched up 12 goals and 8 assists in 31 matches in his very first season with Arsenal. Typically the first year is an adjusting year, but Eduardo wasn’t having any of that: the net looked the same in England as it had in Croatia.

He was the real deal, a bona fide goal poacher and the key to Arsenal’s renewed success — before Martin Taylor broke his leg. Unfortunately, the kid has been out since February 23rd, 2008 with a fractured and dislocated tibia and ankle. At the time, walking, much less playing, would have seemed a miracle.

And now he’s back? 1 week away from joining the team? It’s almost like a dream. Maybe he’ll join Arsenal as a late sub against Chelsea? Maybe Wenger will put him in the Carling Cup away to Burnley? I don’t know yet, but I can say that this is the best bit of news Arsenal supporters have had all month.

< ![CDATA[Now is about supporting Arsenal, deifying Wenger, and saying what a load of silly people all the other football teams are. (Apart from Torquay United, who I also support for reasons that will not become clear at this time).

But of course a quick glance at the EPL table will suggest that things are not as fine as they could be.

What is amusing at the moment however is to read even the supposedly serious papers talk about “meltdown” and “crisis”. As we know, if a week is a long time in politics (Harold Wilson) then its a bloody eternity in football (me).

So, what I says is, if we are going to have a problem or two, let’s have them all at once, sort them out and then move on. Let’s deal with the Gallas issue, deal with the thieving of gloves from the locker room (or whatever it is all about), deal with the fact that we have lost to Fulham, Hull, Anti-Football and Stoke, deal with the fact that the EPL - not content with letting Birmingham cripple our brilliant striker, has now arranged to do it again themselves. In fact, one massive sort out, and we’ll be fit.

This will be particularly good for two reasons.

First, a lot of other teams can’t deal with their problems that easily. Manchester Bankrupt and Liverpool Insolvency are, well, bankrupt and insolvent. And no one wants to lend them money. Newcastle can’t find a buyer, and nor can Everton. The Tiny Fantasists are in the bottom two despite Harry Hots, and the entire existance of CSKA Fulham remains dependent on the whim of one man.

There is a real possibility that within a couple of years some of those teams will not be around in their present form.

Second, we have a wonderful set of new players coming in at the time of the January transfer window. Eduardo will be up and running and playing, Rosicky seems finally to have found the problem with his knee and should be back, Wilshere will start getting a game or three, and so will the wonderful Ramsey. Bischoff has come through his rehab and he is looking increasingly promising. Song is looking better each game and so is Djourou.

So there it is - all the problems that have been nagging at us, all resolved in one big bust up in the next week, and a great bunch of new arrivals coming in through Xmas and the New Year - plus of course lots of money if the Lord Wenger wants to buy.

Looks quite a bright future to me. Of course there are 2,594,984,392,090 fans who think that the newspapers are right, and that we are in a deep crisis, the world is about to end, and Arsenal in “meltdown” as the Guardian said today. (Shame on you Guardian writers, trotting out old hack words). We’ll end up 9th and won’t win any cups.]]>

few points, yes wenger could have replaced someone in the departure of the flamster, but he thought denilson would do the business but obviously he hasnt. and its costing us every game.

Gilberto was also getting a bit past it i think and imo i think that was a good sell,
Now The gallas issue is a bit tricky. He did seem to have all the attributes to be a captain but him throwing his toys out of the pram at brum showed he is not fit to lead the team and wenger should have clipped him one then.

even now i doubt wenger deals with this situation directly- not sure how he thinks the team will pull together against man city as our whole team is in dis harmony]]>
