I felt for Clichy last night. He had a lot of pressure on his shoulders and was kind of being asked to lead the defence from LB. He was still gritty and determined, getting stuck in. But we were attacking a lot, and he was getting caught on the break a bit.

The trouble is, Cesc is the natural leader on the pitch - giving it to anyone else on the field last night would have been a bit of a slap in the face. Whilst I don't agree with goalkeepers being captain, it took some pressure off Cesc and didn't ruffle any feathers.

And Almunia actually did an ok job - he was clearly trying to organise a bit and get people motivated. Not sure how effective a goalkeeper can ever be doing that but.....

Anyway, Clichy was half a yard off the pace for half the match and gave away a few duff passes - odd really as he is usually man of the match material. He didn't play badly by any stretch though, just not to his usual high standard.]]>
