Fenerbahce vs Arsenal: Team News…

As the afternoon gets closer to evening, team news is currently being revealed. It looks like Arsene will start with the same four defenders that finished the game against Everton. Actually, Arsene said that the full team that ended the last game would start tonight.

“It is a big night for us. They have dropped many points already in the Champions League and it is important to start in the right way so we don’t give them the needed confidence. I am not worried about the atmosphere but we have to play to dictate our game. We don’t have a team who is built to defend more than attack. We will play. We will want to attack. We can not lose any more defenders that is for sure. But we will start with the team that finished the game against Everton.”

With that in mind, Nasri was substituted for Diaby in the second half, so the proposed line up could be:

Almunia
Eboue – Song – Silvestre – Clichy
Denilson
Walcott – Cesc – Diaby – Van Persie
Adebayor

What the boss didn’t say is which formation he will use tonight, but it’s quite clear that the 11 players that finished the game against Everton would fit into Arsene’s 4-1-4-1 European away game formation.

It should be an interesting game tonight – I believe it will be a great game of football… Fenerbahce in Turkey… and they do boast some well known players… Arsene spoke about their team:

“I feel Fenerbahce are a team who have not had the best start. But they still have top class players in every position. They have a lot of offensive potential because they have many Brazilians in their squad. Also they have players who have played in England like Emre and Colin Kazim-Richards. Then there is Daniel Guiza, who plays for Spain, and Roberto Carlos. Also they have a remarkable player for the final ball – Alex. He is very good at the final solution. You expect them to put us under pressure with their offensive play so you have to defend well against a team like that.”

Arsene has also called upon Mikael Silvestre to use his experience and be the defensive leader, whilst appointing Almunia as captain ahead of Cesc, much to the angst of many… including me…

More on the Cesc for 3rd choice captain soon…

But for now… good luck boys!]]>

fab match! Definitely. But I agree with Almunia being interim captain… Too much pressure on Fab at the moment…

I would have given it to Clichy………………..

    < ![CDATA[Clichey actually didn't look 100% last night.

The trouble is, Cesc is the natural leader on the pitch - giving it to anyone else on the field last night would have been a bit of a slap in the face. Whilst I don't agree with goalkeepers being captain, it took some pressure off Cesc and didn't ruffle any feathers.

And Almunia actually did an ok job - he was clearly trying to organise a bit and get people motivated. Not sure how effective a goalkeeper can ever be doing that but.....

Anyway, Clichy was half a yard off the pace for half the match and gave away a few duff passes - odd really as he is usually man of the match material. He didn't play badly by any stretch though, just not to his usual high standard.]]>

I felt for Clichy last night. He had a lot of pressure on his shoulders and was kind of being asked to lead the defence from LB. He was still gritty and determined, getting stuck in. But we were attacking a lot, and he was getting caught on the break a bit.
