Friday 11th July: The day Samir Nasri finally signed…

It's been a somewhat protracted transfer which has all the will he, won't he? could he? shouldn't he? did they? questions for about 8 weeks now. We initially heard of contact and Arsene expressed his interest. The player also expressed his interest and it was revealed soon after that both clubs had made contact... things kind of spiralled in and out of control with coach and president saying different things all the time. Young Samir also prematurely announcing his arrival at the Emirates... but all is ell that ends well and welcome Samir to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Young Nasri reminds me of a "polite, enthusiastic, ego-less, French" version of Cristiano Ronaldo and I hope he has a similar impact in footballing terms. He's quick, technically able, has vision and unlike the Belarussian* he's replacing, has a good shot. He scored more goals for Marseille last season than the aforementioned player has for his whole career.

* (that’s Hleb for those of you who have just thought “who?”)

Here’s what the player and manager had to say…

“We are delighted to be signing Samir Nasri. He is young, quick and technically an outstanding player. He has shown great potential with his performances for Marseille and the French national team over the past two seasons and he will add great quality to our squad.”

Nasri commented on his move too.

“I’m very happy to become an Arsenal player, it means such a lot to me. This is a very important step in my life as a football player because Arsenal is a massive club. I really hope everything will go well for me here. I will do my best for Arsenal and its fans and I am honoured to be part of such a great football club.”

Finally, the deal has been done…

A quick synopsis of the player:
The young attacking midfielder made 145 appearances (scoring 11 goals) for Olympique Marseille, during which time he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2005, was a French Cup runner-up in 2006 and 2007 and helped his side into third place in Ligue 1 last season, thus securing a UEFA Champions League place for next season.

I’m quite excited about the Nasri signing, I think he’ll be a great addition to the squad. With Nasri, Ramsey, Rosicky, Walcott, Vela and Eboue, it’s starting to feel that we have a genuine threat on the wings….

In the next fews days, I’m sire we’ll hear more about what’s going on with Hleb and Ade, but until then, let’s enjoy this new signing…]]>

FINALLY!!! been waiting ages for this, whippet like pacey wingers once more, with all the technical abilities of our heroes past (Overmars, Pires, Ljunberg to name a few) :-) Can’t wait to see him in action in an Arsenal Shirt, along with the rest of our blistering attack

< ![CDATA[Woo hoo...an actual signing confirmed!!! It looks as though it's going to be pretty much a straight swap for Hleb...price wise at least as recent reports say he cost 12m and we are looking to sell Hleb for 12.5m.

We still need to get a DM, CB...instead of Senderos and an out and out (decent) striker even if Ade stays as I think we will favour 4 5 1 again next season for champions league games with the midfield line up New DM, Cesc, Nasri, Walcott/Eboue and RVP/Rosicky. leaving Ade up on his own.

If we don't buy any one else we will play 4 4 2 with the line up: Almunia, Clichy, Gallas, Toure, Sagna, Cesc, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott with RVP and Ade up top. With Ramsey, Vela, Bentner etc on the bench.

    Any thoughts???]]>
