It's Thursday: Ramsey, Zapata, Sagna Signs, Hleb and More…

It looks like it's becoming a tug of war for the services of Cardiff's 17 year old winger, Aaron Ramsey. We heard that Man United had an offer accepted and yesterday we heard that Everton had also agreed a fee with Cardiff. Reports suggest that both Arsenal and Liverpool are also currently talking to Cardiff and both our and their bids have been rejected.

On Tuesday Man U declared:

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to contract terms being agreed and the player passing a medical.”

The Everton website then revealed their news yesterday:

“Everton have agreed a fee with Cardiff for Aaron Ramsey. The Bluebirds have accepted a bid of £5m from Everton for the 17-year-old midfielder. Everton have now been given permission to talk to the player about a move to Goodison Park.”

Normally, if Arsene really really wants a player, cite Theo Walcott, then we bid quickly, talk quickly and sign quickly, but this isn’t the case with Ramsey, so either we’re not interested with as much strength as we were with young Theo or Arsene’s commentating job is sidetracking him… or is it?

But… news has hit us that a “third club” has also bid for Ramsey, could that club be us??

The Man U web site believes it is, as they said yesterday:

“The 17-year-old was on Tuesday given permission to talk to United by Cardiff, who also confirmed that another unnamed Premier League club – reported to be Arsenal – had made a successful bid. Then on Wednesday Everton confirmed their £5million offer had been accepted.”

So, the Ramsey saga continues and that’s the done thing at the moment in terms of transfers, it seems that anything Arsene touches turns into a saga.

Talking about sagas, Hlebgate continues.

Alex Hleb, we think, has 3 agents, we’ve heard stories from all three. One of his agents is Vicenzo Morabito, and a player who has 3 agents is surely looking for a move?

Anywho… Morabito spoke yesterday about Hleb’s proposed move away from the Gunners:

“A deal is close. He has been a Barcelona target for some months. I’m sorry that we won’t be able to take him to Italy, he liked Inter a lot but obviously Mourinho has made some different choices and has gone for some other names.”

This quote originated from Spanish newspaper, Marca, which is reknowned for talking a bit of nonsense, but there is no smoke without fire, eh Alex?

So the saga continues…

And on to the next saga, being our defensive record. We all know that our defensive record was the worst of the big teams. Arsene recently spoke on our defensive record:

“I believe overall quality, going forward, we were the best team in the League. However, Arsenal conceded 10 more goals than the others and that made the difference.

And that’s a prime reason why Arsene is looking to strengthen in that department. We’ve lost Matthieu Flamini, so we all expect a new defensive midfielder to join the club before the start of the season. However, one thing that both fans and pundits have questioned is the Gallas & Toure partnership.

Arsene is reportedly keen on Colombia defender, Christian Zapata and we’ve been linked with him through out the last few months. Reports circulating at the moment suggest that we have has a £9m bid for the Udinese player. The player has been linked with all four of the big teams in Italy and the top two in Spain. It is also believed that Liverpool and Man City have been in contact with Udinese but it’s also reported that the club are looking for in the region of £14m for the 21-year old defender.

And to end on some good news…

Bacary Sagna has signed his contract extension that we see him stay at the club until the summer of 2014. Sagna made 40 appearances this season after joining from Auxerre. Our young French full back was voted right back PFA player of the year. That’s some of the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Sagna has been amazing for us these season, a revelation at right back. He’s added strength and power going forward as well and defensive solidity at the back. It wasn’t a surprise when his injury coincided with a slump in our form.

Bacary kept it brief, but said:

“I love Arsenal, they are a great club. The manager is also very good and next season we will be fighting for all the trophies.”

And finally, we’ve been linked again with Miguel Veloso, the sporting defensive midfielder, but with a price tag of £20m, it seems unrealistic to see us go in for him.

Okay, that’s your Thursday…

P.S. Freddie’s been in the news yesterday to let us know that he didn’t make those crazy comments yesterday. A statement read:

“Freddie Ljungberg wishes to make it clear that he absolutely refutes suggestions made by that he enjoyed anything but an excellent relationship with Arsene Wenger during his time at Arsenal. The suggestion that Freddie left Arsenal in order to stay in the Premiership and play against them is not only utter rubbish but is a complete falsehood.”

Before you know it, it will be Friday.

‘Til then…]]>
