Van Persie Could Be A Euro 2008 Star…

Anyway, who will you be supporting tonight? Ultimate Nemisis, Man United or Money Bags Boring Boring Chelsea? I hope they both lose... there must be a rule that says they can... hold on, what if they both get 4 people sent off, so are both on 7 players on each side and then a player from either side gets into a fight and they both get sent off at the same time, surely the match is abandoned and they both lose?

Anyway... let's look forward to the Euros where we all become scouts of course, but ultimately we get lots more football this summer and that's a real positive. This years tournament is looking pretty good with all the major nations boasting a plethora of talent. I mean, just think of any side and then think of all the possible players that could be there and they immediate become favourites...

France have left out Clichy & Sagna but still have a formidable squad. Spain are seething with talent, Cescy, Xavi, Silva, Vicente, Joaquin, Torres, Alonso, Xavi, Villa... the list goes on...

But a team who I'd like to see do well is of course, our very own Van Persie's team, Holland. Alongside Mr Persie, you'll find the likes of players such as Babbel, Sneijder, Robben, van der Vaart, van Nistelrooy as well as players such as Drenthe and of course Klaas Jan Huntelaar amongst others.

It's a tournament that Van Persie needs too and he really has missed a lot of football in the last 2 years. He is rapidly being classed as injury prone, so this tournament could be good for his form, fitness and above all his confidence.

Robin's been speaking on the tournament:

“After all the physical niggles I had this season it is not obvious that I am going to be at the top of my form. I must take it gradually (getting back to full fitness) but I am optimistic, I think, that I will be ready for the beginning of the tournament.”

“It is both tiring physically as well as psychologically because each time I thought I was getting back to being fully fit, I had a reverse. The coach has confidence in me, which is very pleasing and reassuring.”

I really hope RVP’s injury concerns are behind him and hope he maintains his fitness through the tournament and through next season. Van Persie will not be play against Ukraine this Saturday as he will be rested and Van Basten has talked of getting him fit for the tournament.

“I do not want to take a risk with Robin. My wish is that he will be 100% fit on June 9.”

Van Persie’s team take on Italy in their opening game and what a mouth watering game it promises to be!

Let’s hope VP can show us what he is capable of… ’til tomorrow…]]>
