Sucess Built on Defence Two areas he won’t have to worry about are our full back, who were both included in the PFA team of the year, but both are not first choice for their national teams, albeit will be travelling with France to the Euros. Arsene spoke about his full backs:
“I think our two full backs have been great, they have two very good statistics. If you ask any Arsenal fan what they think of Clichy and Sagna I think you will have unanimous praise.”Can’t argue with that… and talking about Clichy, he’s been quick to praise the whole defensive unit. I don’t think I’d be that quick. We haven’t been great defensively when it mattered most this season and it’s the defence where our season has cracked. Clichy on the centre-backs:
“I think with William (Gallas), Kolo (Toure), Philippe (Senderos) and Johan Djourou we’ve got some great centre backs.”Clichy on Senderos’ mistakes against Liverpool:
“And once again when you make mistakes people are talking about you. That’s a shame for Philippe because this game, away at Liverpool, was a big game, he made mistakes, of course. But I’ve made mistakes as well, everyone makes mistakes and you cannot just judge a player on one game. Philippe has been there for five years now and he has done well. He’s the one who replaced Sol Campbell for many months, and Sol Campbell is one of the best centre backs. So that means the guy has qualities and you cannot deny that. You have to take your responsibilities and that is what he has done against Liverpool.”Clichy on the future of the defence:
“I think with all the players we have got, with Alex Song, we’ve got enough quality.”Well, it’s clear to see that the debate is still out on big Phil but Arsene knows these players better than anyone else. In my opinion, I’m not a fan of the Toure-Gallas combo, it just doesn’t seem to work, and at right back, young Hoyte or Eboue just are no way as good as Sagna…
Transfer Round Up…Well, it looks like Mr Ramos at Sp*rs has nicked Arsene’s scratchpad. It seems all the players we have gone to watch in the past two years end up at our North London rivals. First, Luka Modric signed for £16.5m, next it looks to be Robinho, David Villa and Jean II Makoun, with the Brazilian being someone Arsene has been particulary fond of over the last few years. Meanwhile, back at the Emirates, we’ve supposedly signed a rather chunky 16-year striker called Nikos Karelis… hmm, not in the same category as above, but one for the future.
More Praise for Jack WilsherePromising youngster Jack Wilshere has been lauded with praise over the last few weeks but for a good season. He’s been dubbed the new Hleb because of his silky skills. Papers such as the Telegraph have written about him for all to see. The boy is only 16, but Arsene also believes he will arrive in the first team sooner rather than later…
“The next generation is Lansbury, Gibbs, Randall and of course Jack Wilshere. I don’t think he will stay a long time in the Reserves.”I’m sure we’ll hear more about the youngster very soon..
